Job summary

The Family Case Manager at the Department Of Child Services in New Castle, Indiana, serves Henry County and surrounding counties, protecting children from abuse or neglect and pursuing permanent homes when reunification is not possible.

This role requires a relevant degree or equivalent human services experience, strong social work knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with diverse families. A driver's license is required; the State provides comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of social work, casework, sociology and counseling methods.
• Strong knowledge of state and federal laws affecting child protection services, foster care, family preservation and adoption.
• Ability to work with diverse families and sensitive situations.

Responsibilities

• Investigate reported child abuse/neglect and determine substantiation; develop recommendations for disposition.
• Assess risk to the child and determine need for removal to a protected environment.
• Develop case plans to assist families and children toward self-sufficiency and permanent homes.
• Prepare briefing reports and maintain case files for community child protection teams.
• Support reunification, guardianship or adoption planning as appropriate.
• Monitor service providers and adjust plans to ensure alignment with the case plan.
• On-call availability to respond to allegations as needed.
• Visit children in out-of-home placements and coordinate permanency efforts.
• Maintain data to evaluate trends in family and child needs.
