Job summary

Shelby County Schools seeks an Educational Assistant to support fall classrooms during the Fall Break Learning Academy. You will assist teachers, prepare instructional materials, supervise students, and reinforce classroom lessons to ensure a well-organized, safe learning environment.

The role requires at least an Associate’s Degree or 48 college hours, CPR/First Aid certification, and prior experience with children in educational settings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree or two years of college or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test and one year of experience in an educational setting.
• Must possess or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
• Currently working in SCS as an Educational Assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists fall teachers in maintaining a well-organized classroom for fall sessions.
• Aids students during fall classes, focusing on small groups and individuals as needed.
• Prepares instructional materials and organizes the classroom for activities.
• Assists in cleaning and storing materials after activities.
• Reinforces knowledge and skills taught by the teacher.
• Maintains student records, attendance, and assists with assessments and behavior monitoring.
• Supervises students during buses, halls, field trips, testing, lunch, and activities.
• Supports students with special needs and daily living routines as required.
• Participates in special programs or projects and communicates with parents as needed.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service training and stays updated on developments.
