Job summary

James River Equipment in Ashland, VA is hosting a Fall 2027 John Deere Technician program as a supervised work experience alongside a two-year Associate of Applied Science at Wake Tech Community College. Trainees choose between Agricultural Equipment Mechanic or Construction & Forestry Mechanic tracks and work as apprentice technicians at their home JRE location.

Participants receive tools and uniforms, tuition reimbursement after completing training, and a clear path to full-time mechanic roles

Qualifications

• High school students encouraged to apply.
• Candidates seeking this degree as a second career option post-high school are also eligible to apply.
• References and school transcripts will be requested prior to interview.
• In-person interview will be required at the James River Equipment branch closest to home base.
• Mechanical aptitude assessment required to be completed.

Responsibilities

• On-the-job training as an apprentice technician.
• Attend classes part-time as part of Wake Tech program.
• Work at James River Equipment locations during class/lecture times.
• Sponsored technicians are paid internships and receive tools and uniforms.

Job Location: JRE Corporate Office - Ashland, VA 23005, Salary Range: $18.00 - $19.00 Hourly, * Accepting applications for Fall 2027 JD Tech Program *

Partner with James River Equipment at Wake Tech Community College as a John Deere Sponsored Technician

This program is a supervised work experience that accompanies a two-year Associate of Applied Science program through Wake Tech Community College in Raleigh, NC. The courses provide a John Deere-based curriculum of both classroom and lecture and laboratory experiences. Sponsored technicians in the program choose between either:

• Agricultural Equipment Mechanic Program
• Construction & Forestry Mechanic Program

On-the-job training at a sponsoring dealership is a requirement of enrollment for this two-year program. Students attend classes in person part of the week and work as apprentice technicians at their home James River Equipment location outside of class/lecture/lab times. Sponsored technician positions are paid internships, and sponsored technicians are provided tools in addition to uniforms by James River Equipment.

Sponsored John Deere Techs continue into full-time mechanic positions with James River Equipment upon successful completion of training and degree requirements. Tuition is reimbursed incrementally once in a full-time mechanic position with James River Equipment.
