Job summary

James River Equipment in Amherst, VA is seeking an experienced Shop Technician to diagnose, repair, and service agricultural and turf equipment. The role involves handling diagnostics, repairs, report preparation, and maintaining shop and inventory while following safety rules.

Work is Monday–Friday with rotating Saturday mornings, and includes ongoing training such as certification programs. The benefits package features health/dental/vision, 401(k) with match, paid time off, and opportunities

Qualifications

• Experienced mechanic for ag/turf equipment, heavy equipment preferred.
• Willing to engage in ongoing training and certifications such as JDU, Stihl, Wirtgen.
• Regular computer use for codes and work orders is preferred.
• Basic tooling and diesel technology training is beneficial.
• Valid driver’s license and DOT card required for field technicians.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on agricultural equipment as requested by the Service Manager and Service Writer.
• Prepares all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.
• Maintains condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
• Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
• Disassembly and inspection to order parts and schedule machine work.
• Maintain records of time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing dealership equipment.

We are seeking EXPERIENCED technicians familiar or certified with agricultural/turf equipment for our Shop Tech opening, which covers Monday-Friday and rotating Saturday mornings.

Day in the Life: ShopTechnician

• Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on agricultural equipment and established products as requested by the Service Manager and Service Writer.
• Prepares all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments.
• Maintains condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
• Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
• Complete dis-assembly and inspection, as efficiently as possible, so parts may be ordered and machine work can be scheduled promptly.
• Maintain records and account for all time, parts, and supplies used in repairing and servicing both customer and dealership equipment.

Need to Succeed:

• Experience as a mechanic diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing equipment, preferably heavy equipment, ag/turf equipment, compact construction, or related diesel equipment; experience with 2- and 4-cycle equipment will be considered for our locations with small engine shops
• Coachability and willingness to learn through continued training, such as JDU certification, capstone course, Stihl certification (where applicable), Wirtgen training, etc
• Recent and regular computer use, specifically in running codes and submitting work order information is strongly preferred
• Basic tooling required for most shops and training in diesel technology or heavy equipment mechanics is preferred
• Valid driver's license with ability to be insured on company policy and medical DOT card required for field technicians
