Job summary

The Platte County fair and maintenance department in Platte County, WY is seeking friendly, dependable, self-motivated applicants to join our team. Under the direction of the Fair Manager and Maintenance department head, the role combines year-round office duties with preparations for the Platte County Fair, plus janitorial and maintenance tasks.

This full-time position offers flexible hours, potential nights and weekends during peak season, and opportunities to work across buildings and grounds

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; must speak/read/write English.
  • Experience with public relations concepts and client interaction is desirable.
  • Ability to operate standard office machines and use basic office software.
  • Training to operate specialized office software systems will be provided.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and building maintenance.
  • Strong time management, verbal and written communication, and multitasking abilities.
  • Experience in public service or public-facing roles is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phone calls and provide guidance on rentals and fair-related questions.
  • Update website, post on social media, and coordinate calendars and schedules.
  • Collaborate with maintenance on projects; prepare for rentals and facility upkeep.
  • Assist with planning, promotion, and production of the Platte County Fair; create fairbooks, ads, and flyers.
  • Perform weekly financial duties and maintain records.
  • Clean county buildings and assist in general facility maintenance.
  • Mow lawns and perform related grounds care duties.
  • Assist with laminating, book binding, and other office tasks.
  • Support both the fair office and maintenance department as needed.
  • Operate a tractor for dirt work in arenas and set up/tear down event spaces.
  • Turn over rented buildings between events and travel for parts or supplies.

Job description

The Platte County fair and maintenance department is seeking friendly, dependable, self motivated applicants that have mutli-tasking abilities to join our team. Under the direction of both the Fair Manager and the Maintenance department head, applicants will be in charge of both assisting the fair manager in year round office duties and preparations for the annual Platte County Fair. As well as janitorial cleaning duties of county buildings, assisting in maintenance duties as they arise. This job will be a year round full-time position with flexible hours and may require some nights and weekends during the busy season.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have completed high school or a GED equivalent program and must speak, read, and write English at a level necessary for satisfactory job performance. They must also successfully execute principles and practices of public relations, operate standard office machines and equipment. Applicants will be trained to operate specialized office software systems. Applicants must also have basic knowledge of everyday cleaning procedures. A strong candidate will possess excellent time management, superior verbal and written communication skills, have experience managing multiple tasks at various stages, possess excellent organizational skills, and show the ability to many different tasks in a single work day. It is desired, but not required, that candidates for the position have experience in public service, or in a public-facing job that involves involvement with the public.

Responsibilities
  • Answering phone calls and giving guidance on rental and fair related questions. Responding to inquiries, messages and email messages in a timely fashion.
  • Website updates, posting on social media, updating calendars, and coordination schedules.
  • Working closely with the maintenance department on projects, organizing needs for rentals, along with maintenance of grounds and cleaning duties.
  • Responsible for aiding with planning, preparation, promotion, and production of the Platte County Fair. To include designing and constructing fairbooks, advertisements, and flyers. Ribbon sorting and inventories, public relations, and helping develop and direct fair activities, show, entertainment, and exhibits.
  • Performing weekly financial duties required.
  • Cleaning of county buildings.
  • Assist in general maintenance to facility buildings and equipment.
  • Mowing and other lawn care related duties.
  • Laminating, book binding, and other office duties.
  • Assisting both the fair office and maintenance department with various duties at their request.
  • Driving a tractor for dirt work in arenas.
  • Setting up or tearing down panels.
  • Turnover of rented buildings in between events.
  • Travel to other communities for parts or supplies.
Physical Demands
  • Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is important for those activities in which the employee must impart oral information to other employees and the public. Candidates must have the ability to convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly both in person and over the telephone.
  • Hearing: Hear at normal level, or with accommodation. Hearing ability must be sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, or with accommodation. Special and detailed accuracy is demanded and defective near acuity would adversely affect job performance.
  • Hand, arm, and finger dexterity: Operate a computer keyboard, typewriter, and print legibly. Also required is the ability to read and record data quickly and accurately (using computer and handwritten print) to prepare records and reports as well as post data.
  • Sit for long periods: expected to spend extended periods working at a computer workstation.
  • Standing: frequently is required to stand.
  • Lifting and carrying: Raising or lowering (from one level to another) there may be times of heavy lifting. (up to 40-50lbs)
  • Must carry a valid drivers licence.
  • Must be able to perform manual labor, and work outdoors.
  • Ability to work well with others as a team.
