The Department of Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position to begin January 2027.
The Transportation Technologies faculty member develops and teaches undergraduate lecture, laboratory, project-based, and experiential courses in one or more transportation technology areas: mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, networked, diagnostic, control, and integrated systems found in modern transportation and related technology platforms. The faculty member collaborates with industry partners to enhance curriculum, student learning, and workforce readiness. The faculty member engages in scholarly and professional activities that support the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service to the department, college, university, and profession.
The faculty member contributes to education that develops students’ ability to analyze system performance, interpret technical information, diagnose problems, and apply effective solutions using industry-standard tools, equipment, and software. The faculty member maintains currency with evolving technologies, industry practices, and recognized industry competencies and credentials.

The Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies Department offers the Transportation Technologies Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.), and industry-aligned certificates that prepare students for careers and advancement in transportation and related technology industries. The A.A.S. develops a broad technical foundation in integrated systems before students advance into industry-aligned areas of specialization. The B.A.S. builds upon this foundation through advanced study in applied engineering, systems integration, diagnostics, controls, data analysis, operations, and emerging technologies, preparing graduates for advanced technical, supervisory, and leadership roles.
- Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
- Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives and student learning outcomes for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
- Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
- Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant bachelor’s degree.
- Relevant industry, technical, applied engineering, or academic experience in transportation technologies or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more areas applicable to the department’s Transportation Technologies programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant master’s degree.
- Two or more years of relevant industry, technical, or applied engineering experience.
- Current or previous industry-recognized certification, credential, licensure, or specialized training relevant to the candidate’s area of expertise. Examples may include credentials or training associated with ASE, AED Foundation, EGSA, IFPS, I-CAR, ACMA, NCCER, OEMs, or other recognized industry organizations.
- Professional experience with current or emerging technologies, systems, diagnostic methods, equipment, or industry practices relevant to Transportation Technologies.
- Teaching, training, mentoring, curriculum development, or other experience communicating technical knowledge in an educational or industry environment.
- Knowledge of transportation and related technology systems through relevant industry, technical, or applied engineering experience.
- Knowledge of recognized industry certifications, competencies, standards, safety practices, technical information, and procedures applicable to the candidate's area of expertise.
- Knowledge and technical expertise in one or more areas applicable to transportation technologies, including mechanical, structural, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, networked, diagnostic, control, or integrated systems.
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and industry practices relevant to the candidate's area of expertise.
- Skill using industry-standard tools, equipment, software, technical information, and diagnostic or test equipment appropriate to the candidate's area of expertise.
- Effective verbal, written, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.
