Qualifications

Utah Valley University is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented Instructional Technology Consultant to join the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL). This position offers an exciting opportunity to help faculty leverage emerging technologies, instructional design principles, and evidence-based teaching practices to create engaging and effective learning experiences for students.

Working within a highly collaborative faculty professional development environment, the Instructional Technology Consultant serves as a trusted partner to instructors, departments, and university stakeholders by providing training, consultation, resources, and support for UVU’s learning management system and the broader educational technology ecosystem.

What You’ll Do

As an Instructional Technology Consultant, you will play a key role in helping faculty confidently integrate technology into their teaching practice. Responsibilities include:

Faculty Development and Training
  • Design, develop, and facilitate engaging professional development programs focused on instructional technology and effective teaching practices.
  • Deliver workshops, webinars, consultations, and training sessions for faculty in one-on-one, small-group, and large-group settings.
  • Create instructional resources, including online modules, videos, guides, presentations, and tutorials.
  • Support faculty in effectively utilizing UVU’s learning management system and other institutionally supported educational technologies.
Resource Development and Communication
  • Develop proactive and just-in-time resources that support faculty and student success.
  • Create and disseminate technology updates, teaching guides, and best-practice recommendations through websites, newsletters, email communications, and other channels.
  • Provide leadership and training in the exploration, evaluation, and responsible integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to support innovative, ethical, and effective teaching and learning practices.
Consultation and Collaboration
  • Partner with academic departments and campus stakeholders to address discipline-specific instructional technology needs.
  • Consult on strategies that improve digital literacy and enhance learning experiences.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of new instructional technologies.
  • Support data-informed decision making through reporting, dashboard development, and analysis of teaching and learning initiatives.
Program and Event Support
  • Assist with the planning and execution of faculty-focused workshops, conferences, and professional development events.
  • Manage logistical and administrative processes that ensure successful program delivery.
  • Collect and analyze participation and satisfaction data to inform future improvements.
What We’re Looking For
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in Instructional Design, Technology, Education, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of training experience.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctoral degree in Instructional Design, Technology, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience leveraging existing technologies in creative ways to support teaching and learning.
  • Experience with Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI ) integrations into LMS systems.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the pedagogical needs of faculty and the learning requirements of students in the development of teaching best practices and learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their effective, ethical, and pedagogically sound application in teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Knowledge of tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of core instructional technologies used in Higher Education (e.g., Learning Management Systems, Artificial Intelligence tools, Exam Proctoring Solutions, Video Authoring Platforms, Online Diagram and Visual Communication Platforms, Communication and Collaboration Tools, Polling programs, Online Survey tools, E-Portfolios, and more) and familiarity with both Macintosh and Windows platforms.
Skills
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills, and experience designing and delivering professional development workshops and training programs.
  • Proven track record of excellent customer service to a variety of user personalities and skill levels through active listening, critical thinking, adaptability, and clarity of written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including instructional and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical aptitude (problem-solving, logical thinking, thinking outside the box) and an openness to experimentation with emergent instructional technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Exercise good judgment, logic, and troubleshooting skills to anticipate and independently solve problems.
  • Commitment to teamwork and problem-solving as a group to find the best solutions.
  • Skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, etc
