Job summary

Southwest Technical College in Cedar City seeks a Faculty Adjunct for the Unmanned Aerial Systems program to plan, develop, and supervise student learning aligned with approved curricula and assessments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of industry experience in UAS operations or related field; FAA Part 107 experience preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Contingent upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, present, and supervise learning opportunities for students according to curriculum and assessments.
  • Develop curriculum with ISD team and Advisory Committee feedback.
  • Promote job readiness and assist students with employment.
  • Maintain program standards, accreditation, and student outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe, clean training area and ensure equipment availability.
  • Orient new students to facilities, technology, and expectations.
  • Support CTSOs and engage with industry partners.
  • Develop work-based learning activities and supervise off-site students.
  • Participate in professional development and distance education training.
  • Assist in developing and instructing custom courses.
  • Foster effective communication and participate in meetings.

Reports To: Director of Manufacturing

Essential Functions:

  • Plans, develops, presents, and supervises learning opportunities for students in accordance with designated and approved course curriculum and assessments.
  • With the aid of the Instructional Systems Design team and guided by Advisory Committee feedback, develops curriculum according to defined criteria outlined in the Curriculum Quality Checklist.
  • Promotes job readiness, encourages professionalism and good work habits, and assists students in seeking and finding employment.
  • Works to meet college program and accreditation standards and requirements, including completion, placement, licensure, membership hours, headcount, certificates awarded, and retention (graduate completers).
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly training area by ensuring there are adequate supplies to support continuous instruction; monitoring responsible and safe use of supplies and equipment; and requesting and maintaining equipment as appropriate.
  • Orients new students to classroom facilities, technology, and program/classroom performance and behavior expectations, procedures, and safety.
  • Supports student participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).
  • Cooperatively develops and works within the assigned program budget.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with industry partners, developing and participating in Occupational Advisory Committee(s).
  • As applicable, develops work-based learning activities for students, arranges for supervision and evaluation of off-site students, and records and reports progress and completion.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, including training in distance education, if applicable.
  • May assist in the development and instruction of custom courses.
  • Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
  • Participates in department and college meetings as appropriate.
  • Seeks always to promote a spirit of collegiality in dealings with college staff.
  • Plans, develops, presents, and supervises learning opportunities for students in accordance with designated and approved course curriculum and assessments.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

To perform at a proficient level and to be fully qualified, a person would be expected to have:

  • Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certifications:
    • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
    • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years of industry experience in UAS operations, aviation, aerospace, inspection, surveying, public safety, agriculture, or related field. Demonstrated operational experience under FAA Part 107 regulations.
  • Background Check:Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Probationary Period:Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of a six (6) month probationary period.

Supports the College Mission to serve students, employers, and the College community by developing and delivering high-quality instruction in the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program. Provides industry-relevant training in a safe, clean, positive, and productive learning environment. Participates collaboratively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and college partners to promote the general well-being of the department and the college.

Conventional Educational Environment. In some programs, employees may occasionally be exposed to cleaning chemicals and the hazards associated with their respective industry equipment.
