Job summary

Hitachi Energy in Cary, North Carolina, seeks a FACTS Controls Engineer to design and deploy advanced control solutions for FACTS installations. You will work with the MACH control system, developing, testing, and deploying control algorithms in collaboration with global teams.

The role offers exposure to cutting-edge power electronics, HIL testing, and cross‑regional collaboration, with a hybrid work model and onsite presence in Cary several days weekly.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Power Systems, Power Electronics, Control Theory, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years of controls engineering experience, preferably in power systems applications
• 2+ years of programming experience across multiple environments and languages
• Experience designing and testing PI, PID, or similar control algorithms
• Strong knowledge of power systems, control theory, and power electronics applications
• Experience with MATLAB, real-time simulators, or similar modeling tools; FACTS/HVDC experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain control algorithms for FACTS applications
• Program and configure the MACH control system to meet customer and project requirements
• Perform control logic development, debugging, testing, and deployment activities
• Conduct Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using real-time simulators
• Create models and simulations for power electronics and power system applications
• Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning activities, and site startup efforts
• Prepare technical documentation, customer submittals, test procedures, and test records
• Collaborate with project teams, customers, and global engineering groups to deliver successful project outcomes
