Job Summary and Qualifications

As a work-from-home Outpatient Coder, you will work on outpatient coding alerts and edits for same-day surgery, observation, wound care, emergency department, and diagnostic areas, primarily focusing on initial/final coding. You will perform alert/edit resolution activities in the applicable systems, following established procedures and thresholds, and communicate as appropriate.

What you will do in this role:

• Compile daily work lists from eRequest, CRT, and other alert/edit systems.
• Enter detailed notes in eRequest for unresolved or rerouted alerts/edits.
• Escalate resolution issues to minimize billing delays.
• Monitor account aging, prioritize aged accounts, and report to leadership.
• Collaborate with billing, revenue integrity, and Medicare Service Center teams to resolve alerts/edits.
• Communicate coding revisions to relevant parties.
• Complete MOCK abstracts as needed.
• Assist in resolving unbilled reason codes and hold reasons.
• Periodically perform Coding Integrity Specialist II duties if asked.
• Review individual work with managers, discuss progress, and identify training needs.

Qualifications needed:

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT preferred.
• At least 2 years of acute care, observation, or same-day surgery outpatient coding experience required.
• RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS preferred.
