Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician for a life sciences client in Indianapolis. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair electrical, plumbing, and building systems to ensure safe, reliable operation.

This role follows a Monday–Friday first shift with on-call rotation. Candidates should have a high school diploma or trade school, 4–5 years of related experience, and proficiency with MS Office; physical requirements apply.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Strong MS Office knowledge including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Ability to apply judgment based on multiple information sources.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across electrical, plumbing and facility systems.
  • Ensure building operations meet applicable standards and safety requirements.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance programs and emergency repairs as needed.
  • Follow safety policies for storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Inspect building systems (fire, plumbing, life safety) and verify operation within design specs.
  • Contribute to innovative solutions using standard principles and procedures.
  • Handle plumbing tasks (urinals, toilets, sinks, backflow devices) and electrical tasks (lighting, fixtures, LED drivers).
  • Maintain and repair commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, ranges and fryers.

About The Role

As a Facility Maintenance Technician supporting a life sciences client, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical facility systems. In this position, you will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs across a variety of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and general facility infrastructure.

Schedule

This role follows a Monday–Friday first shift schedule, with participation in an on call rotation to support after hours or emergency maintenance requirements.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to the mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Assist with the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Follow departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
  • Review inspection of building systems including fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and plumbing to ensure operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by client.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish complex assignments and provide innovative solutions.
  • Plumbing responsibilities include urinals, toilets, sinks, backflow protection devices.
  • Electrical responsibilities include lighting, faucets, LED driver, bulbs/ballast.
  • Preventative maintenance and repair of commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, dishwashers, range, fryers, hot wells, etc.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 4-5 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to exercise judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Willingness to take a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
