City of La Porte is seeking an Apprentice level Facilities Maintenance worker to perform a variety of maintenance tasks in municipal buildings and grounds. This role requires close direction by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and involves basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical work and use of hand and power tools.
Responsibilities include assisting with HVAC operation, door and fixture repairs, plumbing services, tiling, roofing and general maintenance tasks as needed.
To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of municipal buildings or facilities and grounds; and to perform minor maintenance on equipment. This position requires close direction by the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
This is the Apprentice level class in the Facilities Maintenance series. Positions assigned to this class can be distinguished from lower level classes in the series by responsibility for providing technical assistance. Incumbents assigned to this class are expected to perform basic maintenance tasks with minimum supervision.
Receives direction from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Facilities Manager may give direction in the absence of Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to fumes, odors, dust/mites, electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards; exposure to extreme cold, heat, heights temperature swings and constant noise; walking; twisting body; working in trenches; stooping; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; running; kneeling; grasping; crawling; climbing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; climbing stairs; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, by two-way radio, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of tractor, mechanical lift, power tools, and hand tools; operating a motor vehicle and bus through city traffic.
Knowledge of:
Ability to:
One year of experience in construction and building maintenance work, and a High School Diploma or GED.
Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver License
