Qualifications

Job description

This role is vital to our daily plant operations, focusing on the upkeep of our facility, equipment monitoring, sanitation, and general labor tasks. You will be working directly with industrial machinery and systems, helping with inspections and operation, ensuring the facility remains clean and secure, and providing necessary support during standard operations or emergencies. Candidates must be comfortable working in an industrial power plant setting, which requires a commitment to safety and the ability to perform duties outdoors across diverse weather conditions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation, operation, monitoring, and isolation of plant machinery to keep systems running smoothly.
  • Inspect plant equipment regularly and notify your supervisor immediately if you identify any irregular conditions or performance issues.
  • Utilize local and remote control interfaces to assist in the secure operation of various plant systems.
  • Maintain equipment health by performing routine cleaning, lubrication, inspections, and minor mechanical adjustments.
  • Conduct patrols to check material conveying systems for signs of wear, such as plugged chutes, material accumulation, or overheating bearings.
  • Help ensure the reliable performance of equipment like pulverizers, fans, pumps, and burners through regular cleaning, inspection, and minor repairs.
  • Assist in testing systems for leaks and help resolve them whenever welding is not a requirement.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of smaller components like pumps and motors by assisting with the disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly process.
  • Maintain a tidy facility by washing, painting, and sweeping floors, buildings, and equipment surfaces.
  • Help keep our site clean by washing down roadways and concrete areas to clear away ash, coal dust, and sludge.
  • Support site cleanliness by shoveling coal spillage back onto conveyors to keep work zones clear.
  • Clear away trash and address spills throughout the facility to maintain a safe environment.
  • Manage site maintenance tasks such as filling kerosene heaters and clearing snow.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts, including firefighting and first aid, by completing all required training and responding to alarms.
  • Help maintain a safe working environment for the entire team by strictly adhering to all OSHA standards, environmental policies, and site procedures.
  • Keep supervisors and teammates informed about plant conditions using radio, phone, or direct communication.
  • Support your colleagues by assisting with additional tasks as they arise to ensure operational success.

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Prior experience in power plants, industrial maintenance, military service, or mechanical fields is highly valued.
  • A current, valid driver's license is required.
  • Flexibility to work a rotating schedule, including weekends, holidays, and night shifts.
  • Availability to handle callouts during both standard operations and outage periods based on business demands.
  • Demonstrate the ability to master and apply all environmental guidelines, safety protocols, and operating procedures.
  • Show proficiency in interpreting written manuals, instructions, and basic technical specifications.
  • Develop the skills necessary to safely operate plant controls, tools, and various industrial systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Foster a collaborative and professional atmosphere when interacting with contractors and fellow staff members.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Ability to navigate stairs and ladders throughout your shift.
  • Comfort working on catwalks, grating, elevated platforms, and other industrial structures.
  • Capacity to stand and walk for long durations, including 12-hour shifts when necessary.
  • Fine motor skills required for the operation of various controls and switches.
  • Ability to hear facility announcements and distinguish specific sounds indicating equipment issues.
  • Ability to visually identify color-coded alarms and equipment indicators.
  • Physical strength to exert up to 50 pounds of force for manual valve operation.
  • Ability to perform duties in various industrial settings and changing weather conditions.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. However, operational requirements necessitate that staff remain adaptable to rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts.
