About SFM

School Facility Management (SFM) provides professional facility management, maintenance, and operational services to institutional, nonprofit, educational, and faith-based organizations.

We are committed to reliable service, professionalism, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement. We invest in our employees through training, professional development, and growth opportunities.

Position Summary:

SFM is seeking an experienced, hands-on Facility Manager / Maintenance Technician to oversee and support the day-to-day maintenance and operations of two facilities for one of our Nashville-area institutional clients.

This is an independent, hands-on position for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, performing repairs, managing facility needs, and working directly with a client.

The Facility Manager will serve as the primary SFM representative at the assigned account, ensuring the facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained, and responsive to the needs of the client and its occupants.

This is not a desk-only management position. The successful candidate will spend significant time performing hands-on maintenance and preventive maintenance while also coordinating vendors, responding to client requests, conducting inspections, and communicating with SFM leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Facility Maintenance & Operations

  • Perform hands-on maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical/lighting, HVAC support, doors and hardware, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general building systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Identify problems proactively and complete or coordinate timely repairs.
  • Respond to maintenance requests, building issues, and emergencies.
  • Maintain safe, clean, functional, and presentable facilities.
  • Complete work orders, maintenance logs, inspection records, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with room setups, events, moves, and other facility needs.
Client & Account Support
  • Determine when work should be completed internally versus outsourced.
  • Coordinate vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and projects.
  • Meet contractors on-site and monitor work for quality, safety, and completion.
  • Assist with proposals, invoices, service records, and project documentation.
Vendors & Contractors
  • Coordinate outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs, inspections, and projects
  • Evaluate when work can be completed internally versus outsourced
  • Ensure vendor work meets SFM standards for quality, safety, and professionalism
  • Track vendor activity, proposals, invoices, and completion of contracted work
Safety & Compliance
  • Conduct safety inspections and address hazards promptly.
  • Follow SFM and client safety procedures.
  • Support OSHA, fire/life safety, and other applicable compliance requirements.
  • Properly use tools, equipment, ladders, PPE, and other maintenance resources.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, property maintenance, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of general building maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and travel between two facilities during the workday.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic to intermediate computer and mobile technology skills.
  • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform physical maintenance work

Preferred

  • Facility Manager, Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or similar experience.
  • Experience supporting multiple facilities or occupied institutional/nonprofit facilities.
  • Vendor and contractor coordination experience.
  • Familiarity with CMMS/work-order systems or building automation systems (BAS/BMS).
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and facility inspections.

What We Offer

  • Starting pay of $29.00 per hour, based on experience
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with 50% employer match
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Company-provided phone or phone reimbursement
  • Professional development and training
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Supportive and professional management team

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time, on-site position supporting two facilities in the Nashville area.

The position requires regular walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, working with hand and power tools, and working in mechanical and maintenance areas. The employee may be exposed to varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and must be able to safely perform physical maintenance tasks and lift to 50 pounds.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated problem solver who takes ownership of facility conditions and understands that effective facility management means being proactive—not simply responding when something breaks.

If you enjoy hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, working independently, solving problems, and building professional relationships with clients, this may be a great opportunity for you.
