Job description

Tec Centro York located in York, Pennsylvania are bilingual workforce development centers offering occupational training in the skilled trade of Facilities Maintenance Technician.

We seek a dedicated and experienced Facilities Maintenance Instructor to join our teams. This position will be full‑time and will provide instructional training at the Tec Centro York trades building.

The instructor will deliver high quality, hands‑on instruction in facility maintenance trades to adult learners, preparing them for careers in high‑demands industries. The ideal candidate will combine technical skill, industry experience, demonstrated teaching ability, effective interpersonal skills, patience, and a commitment to workforce development and helping adult learners succeed.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Below is a list of duties this instructor is expected to perform; depending on class size, schedule, and funding, not all duties may always apply.

Curriculum & Instruction

• Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons in facility maintenance, including theory and hands‑on practice (e.g. HVAC basics, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, safety).
• Develop instructional materials, lab exercises, and assessments aligned with industry standards and student learning outcomes.
• Adapt instruction for adult learners ensuring clarity, accessibility, and inclusion.
• Monitor and assess student progress; provide feedback, tutoring, remediation as needed.

Safety, Tools & Equipment

• Maintain and enforce safety protocols in workshop or lab environments.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are properly maintained, organized, and used safely.
• Train students in correct tool use, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety regulations (local codes, OSHA or similar).

Student Support & Engagement

• Foster a positive, respectful learning environment.
• Assist students in developing employability skills: punctuality, teamwork, problem‑solving, and professionalism.
• Collaborate with program staff to provide or refer for supportive services (if needed) to help students succeed.

Program Administration

• Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, supplies, tool usage, and student outcomes.
• Participate in program meetings, professional development, and alignment with Tec Centro’s goals.
• Assist in developing or updating curriculum or training modules as industry standards change.
• Help with budgeting, ordering of materials and supplies relevant to the facilities maintenance training.

Community & Industry Engagement

• Stay current with trends, technologies, and requirements in facility maintenance trade.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry partners/employers for possible field trips, site visits, or job placement opportunities.
• Participate in recruiting students and promoting the program.

Other Duties

• Any additional tasks reasonably related to the role as required by the Executive Director or program leadership.

Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum high School diploma, journeyman and/or post‑secondary education preferred
• Demonstrated experience with at least 4 years working in facilities maintenance or related trades (e.g. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry)
• Applicable professional license(s) preferred
• Prior teaching, training, or mentoring experience preferred; experience with adult or non‑traditional learners a plus.
• Strong knowledge of safety practices, tools, equipment, and relevant regulations.
• Ability to communicate clearly to diverse student audiences.
• Reliable, organized, good at planning, with ability to adapt lessons to varying student needs.
• Basic computer skills for recordkeeping, digital tools, learning management, etc.

Working Conditions & Time Commitment

• Full Time: 40 Hours per week
• Expected instructional location: York, PA
• Yearly – Instructional - 40 Weeks
• Yearly - Prep time - 10 Weeks
• PTO (preferably during non‑instructional hours)
• Paid Holidays
  
• Location: York, PA teaching in lab and classroom environment.
• Some evening or flexible hours may be required depending on class schedule.
• Physical requirements: ability to stand for long periods, lift/move tools/materials, perform demonstrations, etc.
