Job summary

System One is seeking a Facility Engineer for our South Plainfield, NJ site. You will manage facility operations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination with contractors to minimize downtime, ensure compliance, and support production and facility expansion.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years of experience in facility engineering, cleanroom operations, or manufacturing utilities.

Job Title: Facility Engineer

Location: South Plainfield, NJ

Type: Direct-Hire

Compensation: 90K to 140K/Annual

Work Model: Onsite

Hours: Monday through Friday (9AM to 5PM)

Summary

Responsible for facility operations, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, utility monitoring, contractor coordination, and facility improvement projects. The Facility Engineer will work closely with local cross-functional teams, external service providers, and headquarters to minimize downtime, maintain compliance, and support production and facility expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and coordinate routine inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting for facility equipment and utility systems.

• Maintain PM schedules, service records, inspection logs, and equipment history.

• Monitor facility equipment and utility performance and address abnormal conditions before they impact production.

• Coordinate maintenance activities, spare parts, and vendor services to minimize operational downtime.

  Critical Facility Systems

  Provide engineering and operational support for:

• Cleanroom HVAC, temperature, humidity, pressure, and filtration systems;

• CDA, nitrogen, vacuum, DI/RO water, exhaust, and ventilation systems;

• Electrical distribution, UPS, emergency power, and fire/life-safety systems;

• Pumps, compressors, chillers, cooling systems, and other supporting mechanical utilities.

  Troubleshooting & Manufacturing Support

• Respond to facility alarms, equipment failures, utility interruptions, and other production-impacting incidents.

• Perform first-level troubleshooting, coordinate vendors for complex repairs, and support root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Maintain facility conditions required for cleanroom and manufacturing operations.

• Support cleanroom certification, environmental monitoring, equipment installation, hook-up, production line changes, and facility recovery activities.

  Facility Projects & Continuous Improvement

• Support facility upgrades, renovations, utility expansion, energy-saving initiatives, and production expansion projects.

• Review drawings, layouts, equipment specifications, scopes of work, and vendor quotations.

• Coordinate contractors and service providers and track project schedules, action items, commissioning, and final handover.

• Identify opportunities to improve facility reliability, safety, maintainability, and operating cost.

  Safety, Compliance & Contractor Management

• Coordinate contractor access, work permits, site activities, and service quality.

• Ensure maintenance and construction activities comply with company EHS requirements and applicable codes.

• Support facility inspections, audits, corrective actions, and required documentation.

• Maintain facility drawings, manuals, procedures, service reports, and compliance records.

  Reporting & Cross-Functional / Headquarters Coordination

• Provide regular updates on facility status, maintenance activities, open issues, and project progress.

• Coordinate with Production, Equipment Engineering, EHS, Quality, IT, and other internal functions.

• Communicate and coordinate with headquarters in Mandarin and English regarding facility engineering, utility requirements, equipment installation, production expansion, project status, and technical issues.

• Support vendor quotations, purchase requests, budgets, and service contract management as assigned.

  Qualifications

• Basic Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC, Facility Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• 3+ years of experience in facility engineering, industrial maintenance, cleanroom operations, manufacturing utilities, or related facility projects.

• Working knowledge of HVAC, cleanroom systems, mechanical utilities, electrical distribution, and industrial facility systems.

• Hands-on troubleshooting capability and ability to coordinate maintenance and repair activities.

• Ability to read engineering drawings, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and utility schematics.

• Strong communication, organization, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.

  Language Requirements

• English proficiency and Mandarin proficiency are required

  Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in optical module, photonics, semiconductor, electronics, or other high-tech manufacturing environments.

• Experience with cleanroom facilities and CDA, nitrogen, vacuum, DI water, exhaust, HVAC, and electrical systems.

• Experience with CMMS / preventive maintenance systems.

• Experience supporting factory startup, production expansion, or facility upgrade projects.

• Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, building/fire codes, and manufacturing EHS requirements.
