Job summary

ARELI is seeking a Facility Assessment Engineer to provide full-time, onsite support at Fort Drum, NY. The role involves coordinating and conducting field surveys for architectural dimensions, space utilization, and manpower surveys for ePRISMS, with work split between outdoor inspections and office analysis at the Fort Drum DPW.

The candidate will verify as-built drawings, document facilities, and ensure survey data meet accuracy standards, while complying with Army and safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • Four years’ experience conducting field surveys, obtaining physical building measurements (interior and exterior).
  • Experience using GPS to obtain survey points.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specs, and historical facility data for inventories.
  • Proven safety and PPE adherence on military installations.

Position: Facility Assessment Engineer
Work Location: Fort Drum, NY
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
Start Date: Contingent Upon Contract Award

Description: The Facility Assessment Engineer will provide full-time, onsite project support to Fort Drum Directorate of Public Works (DPW). The position will be responsible for coordinating, managing, and conducting field surveys for architectural dimensions, space utilization (Army category codes and using organizations), and manpower surveys for ePRISMS. The position will entail surveying exterior building corners, verifying as-built drawings for new and modified facilities, taking photographs, and validating usage and occupancy. The engineer will divide their time between outdoor/indoor inspections at Fort Drum and office-based analysis and reporting at the Fort Drum DPW. The position requires flexibility, travel across the installation, and the ability to work in New York’s climate. This position reports to the Team UBT CADD Engineer.

Duties include:
  • Conduct field surveys for architectural dimensioning, space utilization and manpower surveys for ePRISMS.
  • Utilize existing survey control network and monument data sheets to complete inspections.
  • Interpret construction plans, technical specifications, and historical facility data to inform assessment strategies and ensure completeness of building inventories.
  • Photograph and document facilities.
  • Ensure exterior building corner survey data includes measurement of horizontal and vertical coordinates to within required tolerances.
  • Conduct field surveys to verify as-built drawings for new, modified, and existing facilities.
  • Ensure all work follows Army, federal, state, and company safety and quality standards, including proper use of PPE and adherence to Fort Drum security protocols.
  • Participate in project meetings, and ongoing professional development to stay current with industry best practices and Army guidelines.
Proficiency:
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, using sound judgment, critical thinking, and adaptability to solve field challenges and respond to changing project requirements, schedules, and facility types.
  • Proficiency in conducting field surveys to obtain interior and exterior dimensions, building corner locations, space utilization, and validation of as-built drawings.
  • Experience using Army Real Property Categorization System to determine appropriate facility usages (CATCODES)
  • Experience using real-time kinetic Global Positioning System (GPS) to obtain survey points.
  • Ability to utilize survey points to obtain distances and/or measurements.
  • Experience obtaining building corner survey data with horizontal accuracy of plus or minus two centimeters and vertical accuracy within plus or minus four centimeters.
  • Ability to provide interior measurements within ¼ inch and in a repeatable manner.
  • Experience communicating technical findings clearly while managing multiple concurrent facility surveys across a large installation with strong organization, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, digital cameras, and mobile/tablet technologies for field data collection.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, walk and stand for extended periods, climb ladders, and work in diverse building environments.
  • Experience working on military installations and knowledge of Army facility operations is preferred.
Requirements
  • Four years’ experience conducting field surveys, obtaining physical building measurements (interior and exterior), and utilizing GPS equipment to obtain survey points.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
