Job summary

YMCA is seeking a Maintenance Technician to enhance member experience through facility upkeep and responsive work orders across branches in Des Moines. The role involves basic systems maintenance, safety checks, and collaboration with staff to maintain clean, safe spaces for programs and aquatics.

Typical hours are the standard work week with potential evenings or weekends for emergencies or events. Pay ranges from $21.00 to $24.00 per hour, based on experience and training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree highly desirable.
• Perform basic computer skills such as using maintenance software and time clock.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between branches.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups in the community.
• Background check clearance required.
• Child Abuse Prevention Training before hire and maintained.
• Additional training within first 30 days

Responsibilities

• Complete general work orders for branch facilities, including pools, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry and equipment repair.
• Assist in facility and grounds maintenance and presentation, sidewalks and custodial tasks.
• Troubleshoot maintenance issues and propose solutions meeting needs.
• Conduct safety walkthroughs and report issues to supervisors.
• Communicate with staff using electronic formats to keep teams informed.
• Maintain tools and equipment in safe, orderly condition.
• Support branch staff to foster cooperation and positive public relations.
• Participate in department and association meetings and training.
