Agency Overview

The Supreme Court of Ohio is seeking an experienced Facilities Technician III to join the Facilities Management team at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center. This is an advanced-level facilities maintenance position responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving complex mechanical and building systems within a large Class A high-rise facility. The Facilities Technician III works with limited supervision, independently diagnoses complex equipment and system problems, and serves as a technical resource and project leader for other members of the maintenance team. We are seeking a highly skilled technician with strong experience in commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building automation, mechanical systems, and life‑safety systems. This is an advanced-level position intended for an experienced commercial facilities technician capable of independently troubleshooting complex HVAC, electrical, mechanical, controls, and building‑system problems.

What You’ll Do:
  • Independently perform advanced maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, and life‑safety systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex equipment and building‑system problems and determine appropriate repairs or adjustments.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and install mechanical equipment, components, and systems in accordance with specifications and safety requirements.
  • Troubleshoot pumps, motors, variable‑frequency drives (VFDs), air‑handling equipment, hydronic systems, cooling towers, boilers, and associated equipment.
  • Work with DDC/building automation and energy‑management systems to diagnose operating problems and improve system performance.
  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting involving three‑phase systems and equipment up to 480 volts, when properly trained and authorized.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot high‑rise plumbing and pumping systems.
  • Assist with maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of fire alarm, sprinkler, and other life‑safety systems.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, control drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance and identify developing equipment problems before they result in system failures.
  • Respond to service requests, identify root causes, develop solutions, and communicate repair plans and timelines to customers and other departments.
  • Lead assigned maintenance and repair projects, including planning work, coordinating resources, and helping ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to less‑experienced Facilities Technicians.
  • Assist with evaluating equipment, systems, and maintenance processes for potential improvements.
  • Operate specialized maintenance equipment such as forklifts, man lifts, scissor lifts, pipe threaders, table saws, welding equipment, and other tools when properly trained.
  • Participate in the department's on‑call rotation and respond to building emergencies as required.
  • Follow applicable OSHA, NFPA, Court safety procedures, and Facilities Management policies.
What We’re Looking For:

The ideal Facilities Technician III is more than an experienced maintenance technician. We are looking for someone who can be presented with a complex building problem, diagnose the root cause, develop a solution, and carry the work through to completion with limited oversight. The successful candidate should demonstrate advanced troubleshooting ability, sound judgment, initiative, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. This individual should also be comfortable serving as a technical resource for other technicians and taking the lead on maintenance projects when needed.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible commercial or institutional facilities maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated advanced experience troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical and building systems.
  • Ability to perform self‑directed maintenance and repairs with limited supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of multiple skilled trades.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience safely using specialized tools, meters, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance machinery.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license.
Technical Qualifications
  • Commercial HVAC and refrigeration
  • Refrigerant handling/EPA certification
  • Cooling towers and water‑treatment systems
  • Hydronic and/or steam boiler systems
  • DDC/building automation and energy‑management systems
  • Pumps, motors, and VFDs
  • Three‑phase electrical systems up to 480 volts
  • Electrical and lighting controls
  • High‑rise plumbing and pumping systems
  • Fire alarm and sprinkler systems
  • Computer‑room HVAC and associated fire‑control systems
  • OSHA/NFPA electrical safety, including arc‑flash and lockout/tagout
  • Building codes and commercial facility requirements
Preferred Qualifications

Experience maintaining a high‑rise, large commercial, governmental, institutional, or specialized public facility is strongly preferred. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with recognized trade credentials, state licenses, apprenticeships, manufacturer training, or certifications in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, fire protection, or related building systems.
