WuXi AppTec Group is seeking a Maintenance Technician to assist with day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical and utility systems at the San Diego facility. The role includes HVAC, chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, electrical and boiler systems, and lab fume hoods.

You will collaborate with external contractors and internal teams, ensuring CGMP compliance and on-time work completion.

Qualifications

  • Technical skills to learn maintenance and repair of facility-related mechanical equipment and utility systems.
  • Ability to work with and learn HVAC and chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, electrical and boiler systems, and chemical fume hoods.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures work is completed correctly and on time.
  • Performs minor dry wall, plumbing, electrical, and building repairs.
  • Assists in moving furniture and equipment.
  • Performs daily checks of the mechanical and utility systems.
  • Maintains emergency on-call services for the facility and communicates with Security personnel.
  • Communicates with Lead Technician and other colleagues to report routine events and exceptional events.
  • Works with contractors and vendors for equipment and facility improvements, maintenance, calibration, etc.
  • Interacts with EH&S, Quality, Operations, and other groups as required.
  • Orders spare parts and repairs/maintenance for facility-related equipment.
  • Stays current in training to be competent in cGMP, EH&S, and Facilities procedures.

Job description

Overview

Responsible to assist with the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and repairs of the mechanical and utility systems associated with the STA San Diego and HDB facilities. This includes the building HVAC and chiller systems, house vacuum pumps, compressed air system, liquid nitrogen tank and distribution system, electrical system, boiler system, laboratory and Kilo Lab fume hoods, and associated utilities/equipment in the Pilot Plant. This may include assisting with maintenance/repairs as well as working with various external contractors and service providers.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures work is completed correctly and on time.
  • Performs minor dry wall, plumbing, electrical, and building repairs.
  • Assists in moving furniture and equipment.
  • Performs daily checks of the various mechanical and utility systems associated with the WuXi AppTec San Diego facility.
  • Maintains emergency on-call services for the facility and responsible for communication with Security personnel.
  • Communicates with Lead Technician and other colleagues to report routine events (i.e. equipment shutdown, impactful maintenance/testing, planned maintenance/calibration, etc.) and exceptional events (i.e. equipment operation issues, equipment out of calibration, etc.).
  • Works with contractors and vendors as needed for equipment and facility improvements, maintenance, operational adjustments, calibration, etc.
  • Interacts with HDB Operations, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, and Quality groups in an effective manner.
  • Orders spare parts and necessary repairs/maintenance needed for all facility-related equipment and systems.
  • Stays current in training to be competent in cGMP, EH&S, and Facilities procedures.
  • Completes all facilities related SOP training as required.
  • Works with Lead to maintain maintenance and repairs for facility-related equipment to meet customer and business goals.
  • Ensures cGMP compliance of facility-related equipment.
  • Willing to learn and understand cGMP requirements for a facility.
  • Experienced in minor electrical, plumbing and building maintenance.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 2-3 years of relevant experience, including facilities repairs.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in Lab setting with exposure to hazardous and biohazardous materials (i.e. Chemicals).
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE (i.e. lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves).
  • Must be able to work in environment with variable noise levels.
  • Ability to stand/sit/walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to Lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to crouch, kneel, bend, twist, and reach.
  • Ability to push/pull 50 lbs routinely/often.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to climb Ladders/Stairs/Scaffolding.
  • Ability to work on rooftop equipment.
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures high to freezing.
  • Inside/outside working conditions.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

  • Technical Skills / Knowledge: Demonstrate capability to learn maintenance and repair of facility-related mechanical equipment and utility systems. Must be willing to work with and learn building HVAC and chiller systems, vacuum pumps, air compressors, electrical systems, boiler systems, and chemical fume hoods (not exhaustive list).
  • Problem Solving: Responsible for providing input on trouble-shooting support for laboratory/Kilo Lab/Pilot Plant utilities/equipment/Operations to the Lead Technician.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication (both oral and written) required to interact with mechanics, Analytical Development, Chemical Development, EH&S, Quality, Operations, and external vendors to accomplish goals.

Anticipated salary range: $28.34 to $35.56
