Job summary

Bachem Americas in Torrance, CA is seeking a Facilities Operations Technician I/II/III/Sr. to maintain and repair the site's building infrastructure and utility systems, including HVAC and purified water.

You will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and coordinate with Production planning to minimize downtime. The role requires experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and GMP environments, strong communication, and the ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or trade school certification with 5+ years relevant experience required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 7+ years relevant experience required
  • Experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, equipment and high mechanical ability
  • Experience with VFD controllers, chillers, boilers, electrical circuits, air handlers, air conditioners, refrigeration systems and all general facility equipment
  • Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety regulations and GMP environment (preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Able to organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Communicate proactively and resolve issues
  • Detail-oriented and team-oriented
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices
  • Flexible hours; rotating on-call; valid driver's license required

Responsibilities

  • Perform building plumbing, carpentry, painting, flooring, door and hardware repairs
  • Execute preventive maintenance on facility assets per CMMS schedule
  • Perform routine facility inspections and drive work orders to closure
  • Operate and repair HVAC systems including air handling units, chillers, boilers, towers, dampers
  • Maintain purified water generation and distribution systems
  • Coordinate scheduled work with departments to minimize downtime
  • Respond to alarms and perform initial troubleshooting and containment

Facility Operations Technician I/II/III/Sr.

The Facilities Operations Technician II, in conjunction with the Repair & Maintenance Manager, is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of the site's building infrastructure and utility systems. This includes HVAC, purified water generation and distribution, plumbing, house vacuum systems, and building finishes.

What you will do

  • Perform building plumbing, carpentry, painting, flooring, door and hardware, and general construction repairs.
  • Execute preventive maintenance on facility and utility assets as scheduled in the CMMS and maintain an effective preventive maintenance program as directed by Management.
  • Perform routine facility inspections on the established schedule, documenting inspection findings, initiating work orders for identified deficiencies, and driving them to closure.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, exhaust systems, VFD controllers, and dampers.
  • Maintain and support the purified water generation, storage, and distribution system, including pretreatment, pumps, valves, sanitization cycles, and associated points of use.
  • Coordinate scheduled work with department heads and Production planning to minimize downtime and production delay.
  • Respond to facility and utility alarms and emergency conditions and perform initial troubleshooting and containment.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or trade school certification with 5+ years relevant experience Required or

  • Experience with electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, equipment and high mechanical ability
  • Experience with VFD controllers, chillers, boilers, electrical circuits, air handlers, air conditioners, refrigeration systems and all general facility equipment
  • Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety regulations and experience in a GMP enviroment (preferred)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment and ability to work independently and manager one's time.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices
  • Flexibility of working hours based on business needs, may include some nights and occasional weekends
  • Must be able to work a rotating on-call schedule (for weekends)
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record Required

Base HourlyRange:

Facilities Operations Technician I: $20.20 - $27.78

Facilities Operations Technician II: $23.92-$32.90

Facilities OperationsTechnician III: $26.55 $36.51

Senior Facilities Operations Technicain: $31.70 - $47.54

Placement of new hires in these wage ranges is based on several factors including education, skill sets, experience, and training.
