Job summary

The Hecktman Family JCCs of Chicago is seeking a skilled facilities handyman/janitorial technician to support maintenance across our community spaces. Responsibilities include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, A/C, and safety system checks for multiple buildings on campus; weekend coverage and summer peak support are expected.

This full‑time, on‑site role offers a $1,000 sign‑on bonus after 6 months and a benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, paid

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree preferred.
• Certified Pool Operator license (or ability to become certified) required.
• Experience using hand and power tools required.
• Knowledge of plumbing and carpentry basics.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems.
• Working knowledge of pool chemicals and pool filtration systems.
• Knowledge floor scrubbing/buffing equipment, carpet cleaners/shampooing equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on repair work (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, A/C) for multiple structures on 600+ acres.
• Clean breakout rooms, hallways, bathrooms and offices areas.
• Support camp activities (e.g., cut/deliver firewood) and program setup/breakdown.
• Set up and tear down of chairs, tables, cots, bunks and equipment in various spaces.
• Prepare facilities for scheduled activities (bonfires, gym, hayrides, pools).
• Provide weekend coverage for Camp Chi/Perlstein and emergency call-outs.
