Job description

Join to apply for the Facilities Service Worker 1 role at City of Southfield.

Shift Hours: Saturday-Wednesday (Saturday-Sunday 10am-6:30pm, Monday-Wednesday 4pm-12:30am).

1. Clean, sweep, mop, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment.
2. Wash woodwork, door hardware, windows; dust and polish furniture, window sills, desks, shelves, etc.; change light lamps; perform miscellaneous handyman requests; maintain exterior patio, sweep sidewalks, and keep free of ice and snow.
3. Set up meeting rooms, public area displays, and exhibits as needed.
4. Operate scissor lift, assemble scaffolding, operate pallet jack; perform specialized cleaning and disinfecting of equipment; upholstery cleaning and spot cleaning of carpeted areas throughout the City.
5. Clean and maintain lavatories; gather and dispose of refuse.
6. Stock and perform inventory control of maintenance materials and equipment.
7. Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training in building maintenance is a plus.
• Minimum of 3 years of recent full-time experience in building/custodial maintenance.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and general maintenance activities.
• Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment.
• Physical ability to perform essential functions, including lifting over 50 lbs., bending, standing, climbing ladders, and using scissor lifts.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and occupational hazards.
• Ability to work independently, problem-solve, organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record.
• Availability to work varied shifts and times as needed.
• Must pass a Level 3 background investigation.
