THE POSITION

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home is seeking a motivated individual to provide food service in our long-term care facility for veterans and their spouses. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform routine meal preparation and maintain sanitation in the serving areas at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home. Responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and utensils, preparing trays, measuring portions, serving food, and transporting trays and carts. You must follow food service regulations and safety rules while using kitchen equipment such as mixers, dicers, slicers, knives, and grinders. Additionally, you will record the use of food and non-food items, read and interpret color codes for special diets, and attend QAIP training.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Work hours are 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with a 30-minute lunch. Off days are Monday and Tuesday.
  • Telework is not available for this position.
  • Salary may be non-negotiable in some cases.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Qualifications
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
  • Willing and able to work in Erie County, PA
  • Availability for a full-time schedule from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM
  • Experience in food service in settings like assisted living, nursing homes, hospitals, or restaurants
  • Experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers during food service
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
Legal Requirements
  • A medical examination is required after conditional offer.
  • Employment is subject to criminal background checks, including PA State Police and FBI clearances, under the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
