Job summary

Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) seeks a Facilities Porter to keep residential, shelter, and program spaces clean, safe, and welcoming. You will perform custodial tasks, light maintenance, waste management, and facility inspections under supervision.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED and at least a year of custodial or facilities experience. The role demands physical activity, strong attention to detail, and teamwork in a busy nonprofit environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience considered.
• 1 year or more experience in custodial/porter services, janitorial work, or facilities maintenance.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation procedures, and safety practices.
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to follow maintenance procedures and work orders.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily custodial duties in residential, shelter, and office environments.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, sanitize, and disinfect common areas and restrooms.
• Maintain cleaning logs and documentation; respond to spills and emergencies.
• Support setup and movement of furniture and supplies for meetings and events.
• Report maintenance issues to supervisors and assist maintenance staff as needed.
• Provide excellent customer service to clients, staff, and visitors.
