BASIC FUNCTIONThe Facilities Flex Technician supports Ivy Tech’s mission by serving as a multi-skilled, adaptable facilities professional who can supplement or temporarily fill essential roles across Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Custodian, and Grounds Keeper functions. This role ensures operational continuity during staff vacancies, seasonal surges, events, and emergencies. The Flex Technician also provides administrative and project support to the Executive Director of Facilities, enhancing departmental efficiency and responsiveness. This position is designated as essential personnel and is required to report during campus closures or emergency events.DUTY BREAKDOWN(Annualized estimates—actual distribution varies based on staffing needs and Project Demand)• Facilities Operations & Work Orders – 25%• Preventive Maintenance & Systems Support – 25%• Custodial Backfill & Building Support – 5%• Grounds Maintenance & Seasonal Operations – 20%• Administrative Support to Executive Director – 5%• Event Support & Facilities Projects – 20%RESPONSIBILITIESPerform and close work orders across maintenance, custodial, and grounds.Assist with preventive maintenance, safety checks, and compliance documentation.Routine Facilities repairs, painting, equipment operations, and general building upkeep.Support building renovations and space buildouts.Provide custodial support, including cleaning and sanitation.Perform grounds operations including mowing, trimming, planting, and snow removal.Provide event setup, teardown, and logistical support.Escort contractors, explain the scope, and report progress or issues to Facilities leadershipSupport administrative reporting, inventory tracking, scheduling, and documentation.Provide high-level customer service to campus community members.Maintain stock levels of maintenance, custodial, and grounds suppliesSupport campus operations during emergencies as assigned in accordance with Ivy Tech PoliciesSafely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment as required for repairs and preventive maintenance. Climb ladders of various heights and use tools while working above head height or below waist height.Operate aerial work platforms, including scissor lifts, boom lifts, and man lifts (with training/certification).Operate a forklift and other material-handling equipment as required (with certification).Assemble, use, and disassemble scaffolding according to safety standards.Safely load, unload, move, and transport materials, equipment, and furniture using carts, dollies, or lifts.Supports multiple buildings or campus locationsPerform tasks requiring working at heights, on elevated platforms, or in confined spaces, following safety procedures and LOTO practices.Maintain required PPE and use it consistentlyVerify deliveries against purchase orders and report discrepanciesMaintain logs, inspection forms, and daily task checklistsProvide classroom setup, including moving furniture, arranging technology, and staging equipment.Follow all Ivy Tech policies, including safety, conduct, procurement, and campus access proceduresWear required uniforms, ID badges, and protective equipment in accordance with college standardsTravel between campus buildings or off-site locations using College vehicles as required.Use mobile devices, tablets, or computers to receive work orders, document work performed, upload photos, and complete digital formsConduct routine safety inspections of assigned buildings, equipment, and work areasAll other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and level of responsibility of this positionHandle cleaning chemicals, pesticides, and maintenance materials safely in accordance with SDS and trainingQUALIFICATIONSRequired:High school diploma or equivalent.Valid driver's license and insurability under the college Authorized Driver PolicyAbility to lift 70 pounds and perform indoor/outdoor labor.Must be able to perform tasks requiring work at varying heights and body positionsAbility to operate tools and equipment and follow instructions.Ability to work outdoors for extended periods during heat, cold, rain, or snow events.Basic computer skills (MS Office, Workday, ServiceNow).Ability to safely operate ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and material-handling equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.) and obtain certifications as required. Ability to use hand tools and power tools commonly used in maintenance, custodial, and grounds operations. Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in elevated areas following safety policies.
