Neogen in Lansing, MI is seeking a Facilities Operations Maintenance professional to oversee daily upkeep of our campus, spanning indoor building maintenance and exterior grounds. You will ensure buildings are safe, clean, and fully functional while maintaining manicured outdoor spaces.

The role includes carpentry, painting, minor plumbing/electrical repairs, grounds maintenance, seasonal weather safety, and use of our CMMS to log tasks.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in building maintenance, property management, or groundskeeping.
  • Proficient with commercial landscaping equipment and standard tools.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather; lift up to 50 lbs; climb ladders.
  • Comfort using mobile apps to receive and update daily work orders.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building maintenance, carpentry, painting, and minor plumbing/electrical repairs.
  • Maintain outdoor spaces: lawn care, landscaping, debris removal in lots and walkways.
  • Oversee seasonal operations: snow removal, salting, stormwater drainage.
  • Log and close daily tasks in CMMS.
  • Operate tools safely; follow PPE and LOTO procedures.
  • Coordinate with external vendors for deep cleaning or spills.

Position Summary

We are seeking a versatile and proactiveFacilities Operations Maintenancepersonnel to oversee the day-to-day care, upkeep, and curb appeal of our physical campus. This role bridges the gap between interior structural upkeep and exterior grounds maintenance.

You will ensure that all buildings are clean, safe, and fully operational, while maintaining professional, well-manicured outdoor spaces. The ideal candidate takes pride in property appearance, prioritizes safe work practices, and enjoys a dynamic mix of indoor and outdoor tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building Maintenance & Structural Upkeep:Perform general carpentry, drywall repair, interior/exterior painting, and door/hardware adjustments. Execute minor plumbing and electrical repairs (e.g., fixing leaks, unclogging drains, replacing light fixtures/ballasts).
  • Comprehensive Groundskeeping:Maintain all outdoor spaces, including lawn care (mowing, trimming, edging), landscaping upkeep (weed control, planting, pruning), and debris/trash removal across parking lots and walkways.
  • Seasonal Operations:Oversee weather-related property safety, including proactive snow removal, salting walkways, and managing stormwater drainage clearing during heavy weather events.
  • Asset & Work Management:Track, log, and close out routine work orders using our digital work management system (CMMS) to document daily facility and grounds tasks.
  • Safety & Compliance:Operate all hand tools, power tools, commercial lawn equipment, and utility vehicles safely. Maintain compliance with facility safety protocols, including appropriate PPE usage and basicLockout/Tagout (LOTO)rules.
  • Vendor Support & Janitorial Backup:Coordinate with external waste management, landscaping, or specialized structural contractors as needed. Assist with localized deep cleaning or emergency spills when required.
Qualifications & Skills
Required
  • Experience:2+ years of hands-on experience in general building maintenance, property management, or commercial groundskeeping.
  • Technical Knowledge:Proficient with commercial landscaping equipment (zero-turn mowers, trimmers, blowers) and standard hand/power tools used for building repairs.
  • Physical Stamina:Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, climb ladders, and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Digital Literacy:Comfort using smartphone or tablet-based apps to receive and update daily work orders.
  • Licensing:Valid driver’s license (clean driving record required for operating facility utility vehicles).
Preferred
  • Experience operating heavy machinery (e.g., skid steers, tractors, or snowplows).
  • Basic certifications in OSHA general industry safety.
  • Prior experience in a commercial, corporate, or utility campus environment.
