Job summary

Bowery Residents' Committee seeks a Facility Manager to ensure safe, efficient operations of multiple NYC facilities. You will oversee maintenance, security, and capital projects while coordinating with staff and vendors to maintain compliance and cost-effectiveness.

The role requires strong leadership, knowledge of codes, and CMMS proficiency, with a background in nonprofit or social services settings preferred. Regular office-based work with occasional travel across facilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years in facilities management, building operations, construction, or maintenance.
• Experience supervising staff and managing contractors/vendors.
• Knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Role Overview

The Facility Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of BRC’s facilities. This role oversees preventative maintenance programs, building systems, contractor and vendor performance, regulatory compliance, workplace safety, security, and capital improvement projects. The Facility Manager serves as a key operational leader, supporting staff and program operations by maintaining a functional, secure, and compliant physical environment that advances BRC’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, safety and security of assigned facilities, ensuring a clean, compliant, and efficient environment.
• Develop & manage preventative maintenance programs, facility inpsections, work order systems (CMMS), and asset life cycle-planning.
• Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, health and safety regulations, and regulatory agency requirements; coordinate corrective actions and resolution of violations.
• Plan, coordinate, and oversee facility repair, refurbishment, renovation, and capital improvement projects.
• Train, coach, develop, and supervise maintenance and janitorial staff, establishing performance expectations, promoting professional growth, and ensuring efficient, high quality service delivery.
• Manage vendor and contractor relationships, including procurement, contract negotiation, performance monitoring, invoice review, and service delivery oversight.
• Oversee building security operations, including access control systems, security protocols, and management of security service vendors to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, clients, visitors, and organizational assets.
• Monitor facility operating expenses, idenfify cost-saving opportunities, and support energy-efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
• Supervise maintenance staff, prioritize workloads, and ensure effective utilization of personnel and resources.
• Respond to facility emergencies, equipment failures, and program concerns, ensuring timely resolution of operational issues.
• Collaborate with program leadership and administrative teams to support organizational operations and facility-related needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and at least 5 years relevant facilities management, building operations, construction, or maintenance experience.
• Experience overseeing facility maintenance, repairs, building systems, contractors, and service vendors.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes, workplace safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Supervisory experience and the ability to effectively manage staff and resources.
• Experience using CMMS or similar facilities management systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid Driver’s license required

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.
• Fire Safety Director (FSD) certification.
• Experience managing facilities within a nonprofit, social services, healthcare, or residential environment.
• Experience overseeing renovation or capital improvement projects.
• Relevant industry certifications in facilities management, project management, or safety.

Working Conditions

• Primarily based in an administrative office environment with frequent travel throughout assigned facilities.
• Regular walking, climbing stairs, inspecting building systems, and accessing mechanical spaces.
• May require responding to facility emergencies outside normal business hours.
• Exposure to maintenance, construction, repair, and building operations environments.

Schedule

Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Monday – Friday; 7:30a-4:00pm
