Facilities Manager Job Description

Under the direction of the Head of Staff, provide overall supervision of the maintenance and upkeep of church facilities and grounds, as well as coordinate the scheduling of facility and campus events.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct supervision to the church custodians, managing their daily work and schedules to ensure all buildings and grounds are neat and clean.
- Regularly inspecting all church grounds and buildings to identify cleaning, upkeep, and maintenance needs.
- Coordinating with landscape maintenance contractors to ensure proper landscape maintenance.
- Ensuring all building equipment, including HVAC, water heaters, and fire extinguishers, are regularly inspected and maintained to comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- Advising the Church Property and Finance Commission as requested.
- Arranging for outside contractors to perform minor or emergency repairs, in accordance with church policy.
- Soliciting bids from contractors for projects, and providing advice and guidance during the bidding process.
- Supervising outside contractors and inspecting their work for compliance and quality.
- Attending monthly Church Property and Finance Commission meetings and updating on maintenance projects.
- Preparing reports related to maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Maintaining an updated schedule of activities and events within the church facilities.
- Attending weekly staff meetings and performing related duties.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- General facilities maintenance and cleaning
- Scheduling custodial work for efficiency
- Site and equipment inspections
- Supervising outside contractors
- Personal supervision of staff
Ability to:
- Learn and apply relevant safety regulations and codes
- Train staff on safety procedures and cleaning/light maintenance
- Evaluate work performance
- Communicate effectively in English
- Work as part of a team in maintaining church facilities and grounds
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; five years of successful maintenance supervision can substitute for education.
- Prior custodial and maintenance experience preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Work involves both office and outdoor environments.
- Work may be interrupted by emergent needs or emergencies.
