  • Develop and implement SOPs and preventative maintenance protocols; monitor compliance.
  • Provide 24-hour response to facility emergencies and coordinate after-hours repairs.

Job Summary

The Facilities Manager provides leadership, supervision, and technical expertise in the daily operations, maintenance, and repair of all district facilities. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient building operations across all schools and support sites, supporting the district's educational mission. The Facilities Manager oversees all maintenance and trades teams, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, fire/security systems, commercial kitchen mechanics, and general maintenance. Additionally, this position supervises the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager and ensures the execution of standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance plans, and emergency response protocols. The Facilities Manager collaborates with district leadership, outside contractors, and regulatory agencies to implement capital upgrades, facility improvements, and sustainability initiatives. This individual also serves as Acting Snow Captain when the Grounds Manager is unavailable and provides 24-hour response to facilities emergencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises trades and maintenance personnel including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, fire/security systems, kitchen mechanics, and general building technicians. Manages work assignments, schedules, and staff performance to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Oversees and supports the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager. Ensures compliance with OSHA, EPA, AHERA, ADA, and local/state safety regulations. Reviews reports and safety audits to address hazards and enforce safe work practices.
  • Coordinates with school site staff, the Operations Coordinator, and other departments to assess and prioritize facility needs. Oversees the use of the district's work order system and ensures timely completion of repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Conducts regular site visits and facility inspections to identify system deficiencies and infrastructure needs. Prepares assessments and contributes to short- and long-range facility planning efforts.
  • Develops, updates, and ensures implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance protocols across all maintenance functions. Maintains documentation and ensures team compliance with district standards.
  • Assists with budget planning for maintenance operations, tools, equipment, and capital repair projects. Tracks expenditures and recommends cost-saving measures.
  • Coordinates vendor work for specialized maintenance services. Oversees contract compliance and performance for outsourced facility work.
  • Leads training for trades staff on technical skills, safety practices, and district expectations. Participates in hiring, evaluations, and progressive discipline processes.
  • Provides 24-hour response to building-related emergencies (e.g., utility failures, fire system alarms, mechanical breakdowns, severe weather events). Coordinates after-hours repairs and communicates with Operations leadership and contractors to ensure prompt resolution.
  • Oversees the scheduling and performance of building automation systems (BAS), including HVAC programming, energy management systems, and equipment scheduling to support district operations and energy efficiency.
  • Supports planning and implementation of capital improvement and bond-funded projects. Provides input on project design, feasibility, constructability, and phasing from a facilities perspective.
  • In the absence of the Grounds Manager, serves as Acting Snow Captain, and participates in district snow removal planning, including pre-storm assessment, coordination of response teams, and communication with district leaders regarding delays or closures.
  • Collaborates with Operations leadership to review and revise policies, procedures, and operational strategies to align with district goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in support of district operations and student success.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to fulfill the physical and dexterity requirements of the work.
  • Relevant maintenance or trade licenses or certifications preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire/life safety.
  • Understanding of facility codes, ADA requirements, and environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, building codes, and technical documents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal relation skills.
  • Ability to perform, track, and provide the current status of multiple simultaneous tasks.
  • Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Ability to demonstrate personal computer, keyboarding, and word processing skills required.
  • Broad knowledge of maintenance of buildings and grounds.
  • Knowledge of planning, government regulations, and leadership and management principles.
  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to carry a phone, be on call, and/or respond to calls 24/7.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, Superintendent, building, and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Education, Training and Experience
  • Associate's degree or equivalent management experience coupled with equivalent technical training in facilities management, construction, engineering, or a related field required.
  • Five years of experience in facility operations or building trades, with at least three years of supervisory experience overseeing skilled trades and/or maintenance teams.
  • Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
