Organization Background:BuCu West, a nonprofit Community Economic Development Corporation has served the Denver metro area since 1987. BuCu West’s mission is to empower marginalized individuals to overcome poverty by supporting them in establishing and running their own businesses in the Denver Metro area.The organization works to eliminate inequity by educating businesses, providing low-cost commercial spaces and developing local leaders to facilitate the access to resources for people and businesses facing displacement or other economic challenges.

Position Description:To accomplish the organization’s mission, BuCu West manages seven commercial properties providing over 69,000 square feet of affordable spaces to small businesses. Among the properties managed by BuCu West are two commercial food incubators, approximately 55,000 square feet, which provide commercial kitchen equipment and storage for start-up and growing food businesses. Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, the Facilities Manager will oversee the maintenance of BuCu West’s growing real estate assets. This position will inspect and maintain mechanical, electrical, plumbing and landscaping systems on all BuCu West properties. Duties include monitoring building performance, negotiating contracts with service providers, inspecting facilities and coordinating renovations and updates.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections
  • Maintain day-to-day operations of facilities, such as delegating or completing maintenance orders
  • Coordinate emergency repairs with outside vendors
  • Orient, train, and assist in developing other maintenance team members
  • Provide written maintenance reports and action items
  • Oversee monthly key performance metrics and reports for maintenance team
  • Monitor the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, production areas, and parking lots.
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards
  • Inspect buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations
  • Delegate cleaning and maintenance tasks to team or contractors
  • Manage activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc.
  • Create reports on maintenance, repairs, safety, and other occurrences for supervisors and other relevant staff
  • Provide on-call coverage to respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Ensure proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security system vendors or a team of security professionals.
  • Prepare facilities for changing weather conditions

Other duties and responsibilities

  • Collaborate with site managers to identify maintenance needs, oversee tenant improvements, and ensure tenant satisfaction.

  • Support and engage in activities to further the mission, vision, and strategic plan of the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Job Qualifications:

  • Experience operating and maintaining large facility HVAC/plumbing/electrical systems.
  • Ability to use/learn project management software
  • Efficiently work independently as well as part of a dynamic workgroup
  • Ability to perform basic office tasks including writing reports, creating basic spreadsheets, use Microsoft Office, monitor and send email
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and intercultural skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and work towards job relevant education
  • Passionate about helping others to succeed

Education and/or Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in property maintenance required
  • 2+ years of experience in construction or equivalent field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience with plumbing and HVAC
  • 2+ years managing multiple properties simultaneously
  • Technical training or certification a plus
  • Experience with commercial kitchen equipment, refrigeration, and ventilation systems preferred
  • Experience working in the nonprofit sector is highly valued

Compensation:Salaried position. Anticipated hiring range: $65,000 – $80,000 a year. Paid bi-monthly on the 5thand 20th. The final agreed upon compensation will be based on individual qualifications and experience.

Benefits: This position is eligible for benefits including health dental and vision insurance, IRA match, PTO, and all Federal holidays.

Location: Candidates must be able to work onsite in Denver, Colorado USA.

Schedule: Full-time, 40-hour per week. Options for flexible or alternative work schedules, subject to operational needs and management approval

Travel Required: Frequent travel between properties within the Denver Metro area is required.

Duration: Permanent position with regular reviews

Physical requirements and environment:

  • The work environment includes a combination of office settings, building interiors (mechanical rooms, tenant spaces), and outdoor environments.
  • Occasionally required to walk for long distances or periods of time
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, while traveling between properties and inspecting building exteriors.
  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical hazards, heights (ladders, roofs), confined spaces, and potentially hazardous materials (cleaning chemicals, etc).
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (e.g., equipment, supplies). May occasionally require assistance with heavier items.
