Job summary

COTA is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Utility A to support the Facilities Department with preventative and routine maintenance across systems, hardware, and equipment. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, accountability, and service, aligning with the organization’s mission to move lives forward.

The position involves assisting with concrete work, space planning, and the use of BAS and Microsoft Office for reporting and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.

  • Ability to use hand tools and operate trade equipment as identified on COTA's tool list.
  • Familiarity with BAS and Microsoft Office is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow work orders and logs for all assignments; coordinate with Finance and leadership.
  • Perform concrete work, site prep, form setup, and finishing for repairs and new installations; assist with space planning.
  • Comply with safety rules; generate, update, and close work orders using BAS and other systems.
  • Safely operate vehicles and equipment, perform basic electrical and plumbing maintenance as trained.
  • Snow and ice removal including plowing and salting; maintain ADA accessibility areas.
  • Procure goods related to facilities trade following procedures and keep work areas clean and organized.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Maintenance Utility A supports the Facilities Department by performing preventative and routine maintenance, repairs, replacement and installation of all facilities systems, hardware, and equipment as needed within qualifications.

Performs duties that advance COTA's Strategic Plan and reflect the organization's core values of safety, empowerment, accountability, teamwork, and service, and support the mission of Moving Every Life Forward.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Following comprehensive work orders and operational logs for all assignments as directed, and performing errands and deliveries to support above functions; and coordinating with Finance and leadership.
  • Performing concrete work including: site preparation, form setup, prep, finishing of pads, for concrete repairs and new installations; Assist with short-and long-term space planning by tracking workspace availability and supporting layout and utilization needs across administrative areas.
  • Complying with all safety rules and regulations; Support the EAM system by generating, updating, and closing work orders, including the creation of planned work orders.
  • Responsible for the proper use of the Authority's vehicles, equipment, materials and supplies and notifying management of any defects. Equipment care includes the preparation, functional use, operational adjustments such as sharpening, tuning, lubrication, cleaning and proper storage; Prepare staff summaries and internal reports that provide budget status, operational updates, and key departmental activities for leadership review.
  • Performing routine electrical, plumbing and other maintenance and general construction work within capabilities and training limitations, motor maintenance and replacement, repairing existing wiring, replacing fuses and circuit breakers, troubleshooting electric circuits, clearing drains, piping, sheet metal, and carpentry and the proper operation of tools required for these skills;
  • Performing soldering and acetylene cutting with Authority supplied equipment on the Authority's facilities to perform the duties of this line of progression;
  • Performing Facility Service Technician work within this line of progression;
  • Responsible for snow and ice removal including: plowing, shoveling, and blowing snow; spreading salt on parking lots, driveways; ADA accessibility areas and other designated locations with snow removal equipment and trucks with salt spreaders and snow plows when needed to include loading and unloading salt;
  • Procuring goods related to the facilities trade, following the governing procedures;
  • Keep work area in a clean safe and professional manner;
  • Will use heavy equipment, i.e. man lift, skid loader, bulldozers and backhoe;
  • Performing maintenance on bus stop signs, bus routes, shelters, park and rides, and related assets to include: sign fabrication, replacement, repair, installation, removal, glass repairs, bus route information and inspections of same; and Job Manual for Vehicle and Facilities Maintenance
  • Performing similar work in this line of progression.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the basic skills necessary to perform the duties listed above;
  • Skills in verbal and written communication;
  • Must have the ability to carry through assignments to completion with limited supervision;
  • Must have the ability to recognize classification related difficulties and take necessary corrective measures to facilitate completion of assignments;
  • Must possess and be able to use the proper hand tools that are required to perform the duties of this classification, and possess the ability to operate equipment that is commonly used in the facilities trade;
  • Refers to technical manuals, blueprints and electrical diagrams to obtain information necessary to make the correct repairs. Must have ability to utilize computer programs such as Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Microsoft Suite.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in the basic skills necessary to perform the duties
    listed above;
  • Must have the ability to carry through assignments to completion with limited
    supervision;
  • Must have the ability to recognize classification related difficulties and take
    necessary corrective measures to facilitate completion of assignments;
  • Must possess and be able to use the proper hand tools that are required to perform
    the duties of this classification, and possess the ability to operate equipment
    is commonly used in the facilities trade as identified on COTA's tool list;
