Job summary

The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an OPS Maintenance Repairman in Saint Augustine, FL. The role involves supporting the Utilities and Maintenance team to keep the Veterans Nursing Home facilities operational.

Responsibilities include routine maintenance, energy data reporting, and adherence to safety and policy standards. The position requires English communication, physical aptitude, and a flexible schedule including weekends.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year in maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Able to bend, kneel, climb, crouch; work near loud noises and electrical equipment.
• Experience with plumbing, HVAC, and electrical equipment.
• Flexible schedule Monday–Friday, plus weekends and holidays.
• Successful completion of a Level II background check and drug test.
• Experience in a long-term care or hospital environment with a geriatric population.

Responsibilities

• Assist Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent and repair staff in maintenance of the Veterans Nursing Home.
• Ensure environmental controls and equipment are operational and maintained.
• Assist with inspections to comply with laws, rules, and policies and procedures.
• Compile energy consumption and vehicle-use information; support energy conservation programs.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance to keep machines and building systems efficient.
• Provide routine repair services to defective equipment and manage work orders.
• Maintain tools, work equipment and work area in a clean, organized manner.
• Attend in-service training and follow applicable policies and procedures.
