Job summary

The University of Indianapolis is seeking a skilled MEP Technician to join our Facilities Management team on a 65-acre campus just minutes from downtown Indianapolis. This hands-on, multi-trade role covers mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic facilities, where technical skills are highly valued.

The role features a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM schedule, pay $26–$30 per hour depending on experience, and participation in a shared after-hours

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related trade field.
  • Working knowledge across HVAC, electrical systems, and plumbing—depth in one or more areas with willingness to work across all three.
  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification (Universal preferred; Type I or II considered).
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a varied daily workload.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC and mechanical systems campus-wide.
  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams and panel schedules.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing systems across campus.
  • Coordinate with maintenance staff and participate in on-call rotation.

The University of Indianapolis is seeking a skilled, self-directedMEP Technician to join our Facilities Management team on a 65-acrecampus just minutes from downtown Indianapolis. This is a hands-on,multi-trade role covering mechanical, electrical, and plumbingsystems across academic buildings, residence halls, and athleticfacilities — an environment where technical skills are genuinelyvalued, and no two days look exactly alike.

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE:
  • Pay: $26.00 – $30.00 per hour, commensurate withexperience
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Participation in a shared after-hours on-call rotation with thebroader maintenance staff
REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This is a wide-ranging, multi-trade position with responsibilitiesthat span mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across thefull campus portfolio — residence halls, academic buildings,athletic facilities, and beyond. The scope of this role is broad bydesign and extends well beyond what any single description couldfully capture.

Mechanical / HVAC
  • Mechanical responsibilities cover the diagnosis, repair, andmaintenance of a broad range of HVAC and mechanical systems foundthroughout the campus portfolio. This includes everything fromunit-level equipment to larger central plant systems, as well asdomestic hot water systems and associated mechanical equipment.Familiarity with building automation and controls (BMS/BAS) is aplus, as campus mechanical systems are monitored and managedthrough these platforms.
Electrical
  • Electrical responsibilities cover diagnostics, repair, andmaintenance across the range of building electrical systems presentthroughout campus. This includes lighting, power distribution,motors, emergency and standby power equipment, and associatedcontrols, as well as general electrical maintenance as needs ariseacross the campus portfolio. The ability to read and interpretelectrical diagrams, schematics, and panel schedules isessential.
Plumbing
  • Plumbing responsibilities cover repair and maintenance acrossthe range of commercial and residential-style systems foundthroughout campus buildings. This includes fixture repair andservice, drain and waste systems, valve and pump work, and generalplumbing maintenance as needs arise across the campusportfolio.

A strong foundation in at least one of the three trade areas isexpected. Candidates are not required to be highly proficientacross all three, and the University is committed to supportingprofessional development in areas where additional experience maybe needed.
