Overview

FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA). Capital Planning and Facilities (CPF) works to ensure that IU campuses are beautiful, functional, and sustainable supporting excellence in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement across the entire university. A unit within CPF, Facility Operations, maintains our physical campus to support research, teaching, and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. As a unit of Capital Planning and Facilities, Facility Operations provides wide-ranging services all with the goal of creating a beautiful, well-functioning campus.

Responsibilities
  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance and repair on HVAC systems. Checks air vents and installs window air conditioning units.
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, machinery, equipment, and appliances.
  • Repairs and performs minor maintenance on pipe systems and plumbing fixtures including repair of faucet leaks, vandal-proof stoppers, and shower heads. Clears drains using plunger and spring.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines corrective steps, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate. Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces drywall, paint, screens, glass, doors and door hardware, shade blinds, furniture, lamps, handrails, ceiling and floor tiles, baseboard molding strips, etc. Repairs desk lamps, ceiling lights, sweepers, and wet vacs. Replaces light switches, ceiling lights, and fluorescent fixtures.
  • Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment and advises supervisor when supplies need to be ordered. Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
  • Assists in directing the work of others.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. Provides 24-hour emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
Work Experience
  • 2 years of multi-craft maintenance experience in facilities upkeep.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position oneself in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus.

The successful applicant will need to be available for daytime training for the first 6 months of employment.

Bloomington, Indiana

3:30 P.M.-12:00 A.M., Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Monday.
