Job Description

The University of Indianapolis is seeking a skilled, self-directed MEP Technician to join our Facilities Management team on a 65-acre campus just minutes from downtown Indianapolis. This is a hands-on, multi-trade role covering mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic facilities — an environment where technical skills are genuinely valued, and no two days look exactly alike.

Compensation & Schedule
  • Pay: $26.00 – $30.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Participation in a shared after-hours on-call rotation with the broader maintenance staff
Requirements/Minimum Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related trade field
  • Working knowledge across HVAC, electrical systems, and plumbing — depth in one or more areas with willingness to work across all three
  • EPA 608 Refrigerant Certification (Universal preferred; Type I or II considered)
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage a varied daily workload
  • Valid driver’s license required
Essential Functions

This is a wide-ranging, multi-trade position with responsibilities that span mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across the full campus portfolio — residence halls, academic buildings, athletic facilities, and beyond. The scope of this role is broad by design and extends well beyond what any single description could fully capture.

Mechanical / HVAC
  • Mechanical responsibilities cover the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a broad range of HVAC and mechanical systems found throughout the campus portfolio. This includes everything from unit-level equipment to larger central plant systems, as well as domestic hot water systems and associated mechanical equipment. Familiarity with building automation and controls (BMS/BAS) is a plus, as campus mechanical systems are monitored and managed through these platforms.
Electrical
  • Electrical responsibilities cover diagnostics, repair, and maintenance across the range of building electrical systems present throughout campus. This includes lighting, power distribution, motors, emergency and standby power equipment, and associated controls, as well as general electrical maintenance as needs arise across the campus portfolio. The ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and panel schedules is essential.
Plumbing
  • Plumbing responsibilities cover repair and maintenance across the range of commercial and residential-style systems found throughout campus buildings. This includes fixture repair and service, drain and waste systems, valve and pump work, and general plumbing maintenance as needs arise across the campus portfolio.

A strong foundation in at least one of the three trade areas is expected. Candidates are not required to be highly proficient across all three, and the University is committed to supporting professional development in areas where additional experience may be needed. The right candidate brings solid technical instincts and a willingness to grow.
