Job summary

Outagamie County is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician I to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds. The role reports to the Facilities Director and operates on 2nd shift with a 3:30pm–12:00am schedule, including on-call rotation and overtime as needed.

A $1.00/hour second-shift differential applies. The county offers benefits, paid time off, and enrollment in the Wisconsin Retirement System.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; specialized classes in industrial arts or building trades preferred.
• At least two years of experience in construction, remodeling or maintenance, with carpentry, plumbing, masonry and/or electrical work.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and architectural drawings.
• Knowledge of boilers, building systems, safety procedures and preventive maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to boilers, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
• Service pumps, fans, elevators, air conditioners and other equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance to keep equipment in good condition.
• Paint and repair buildings, equipment and furniture.
• Move office furniture and equipment as needed.
• Perform lawn care, landscaping and snow removal; operate light trucks.
• Maintain records using computer systems and building automation access.

Reporting to the Facilities Director, the Facilities Maintenance Technician I performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds.

Typical Work Hours/Shift:

2nd Shift position which has a typical Schedule 3:30pm-12:00pm, Typically rotating on call every 4-6 weeks depending on availability, Overtime is required as needed.

Due to being second shift there is a $1.00/hour shift differential premium!

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Troubleshoot and make minor adjustments and repairs to boilers, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems.
• Checks, services and repairs pumps, fans, elevators, air conditioners, etc.
• Perform preventative maintenance to keep equipment clean and in good working condition.
• Perform painting and minor repairs to buildings, equipment and furniture.
• Perform moves of office furniture, supplies and equipement.
• Perform lawncare, landscaping and snow removal duties as required.Use computer to maintain records of work performed, access the building automation system, accessing blueprints and manuals, SDS sheets, email, time reporting and other common functions.
• Operate pickup trucks with snow plows and light snow removal equipment.
• Provides on-call coverage as assigned.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• High School graduate or G.E.D., with specialized classes in industrial arts or building trades; at least two years of experience in construction, remodeling or maintenance work, with particular experience in carpentry, plumbing, masonry and/or electrical work, and experience troubleshooting systems.
• Or, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Candidate must pass all county and federal background checks and fingerprint checks as a condition of employment.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain

• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the Department as well as the Outagamie County Work Rules and Terms of Employment.
• Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of building systems and make repairs.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics and architectural drawings.
• Knowledge of tools and equipment used in general maintenance and repair work.
• Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and follow standard safety procedures.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Ability to operate a light truck or other vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license.
• Ability to safely operate small power equipment such as lawnmowers, riding mowers, edgers, trimmers, etc.
• Ability to use and understand mechanical gauges.
• Ability to use computers for recordkeeping and operation of the building system.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, and work semi-independently.
• Skill in the use of tools.
• Ability to walk, stoop, climb, bend, stretch, push, pull and lift or otherwise move weights up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
• Performs a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled facility related tasks.
• Approximately 80% of tasks are performed indoors and 20% outdoors.
• Operates various equipment, utilizes hand tools and works with computerized equipment.
• Work both as a team member and individually to serve the various facility related needs of the County.
• Operate County vehicles to perform work at various County building's throughout the County.

Work Environment:

This position primarily operates in a variety of government-owned facilities, including general office buildings, justice-related facilities, and secure areas. Work is regularly performed in mechanical rooms and maintenance areas, with occasional tasks completed outdoors in varying weather conditions. The role may involve navigating tight spaces, using ladders, and responding to facility needs across multiple sites. Safety and security protocols must be followed at all times, especially in justice-related settings.
