Job summary

Ottawa County is seeking a semiskilled maintenance worker to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on building systems, fixtures, and related components in the county jail facility in West Olive, MI. The role requires reading blueprints, following safety protocols, and collaborating with the operations team.

Typical duties include servicing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds tasks, with a 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. schedule.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED plus 3 years experience in maintenance and repair of building operating systems, grounds, or remodeling.
Must have valid Michigan driver’s license and the ability to gain certifications as required by MIOSHA/OSHA within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

Provide semiskilled labor for preventive maintenance and repair of building systems and components.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, replace worn parts, and lubricate moving components.
Repair or replace damaged building features, fixtures, and electrical/mechanical elements.
Maintain security systems, alarms, lighting, and HVAC controls; monitor gauges and sensors.
Read blueprints and schematics to determine procedures for cabinets, partitions, and workspaces.
Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisor when reordering is needed.
Maintain a safe, clean work area and adhere to safety protocols.
