Job summary

County of Chester, South Carolina is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across county buildings, facilities, grounds, and building systems.

The role includes HVAC inspection and basic repairs, preventive maintenance, minor electrical/plumbing work, carpentry, painting, and coordinating with other staff to keep county properties safe and functional.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and at least 1 year of maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building trades.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and respond to emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Performs general maintenance, repair, and minor construction work on County buildings, facilities, grounds, equipment, and building systems.
• Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and performs routine repairs to HVAC systems and equipment within training and authorization.
• Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC systems and other building equipment, including filter changes, cleaning, inspection, testing, lubrication, and other scheduled maintenance activities.
• Identifies, troubleshoots, and assists in correcting electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building-system problems and reports when specialized repair is needed.
• Performs minor electrical repairs and maintenance, including lighting, switches, receptacles, fixtures, and similar components.
• Performs general plumbing maintenance and minor repairs (faucets, fixtures, toilets, drains, valves).
• Performs carpentry, painting, drywall, door, lock, window, flooring, ceiling, and other general building repairs and improvements.
• Uses diagnostic equipment, meters, gauges, hand tools, and power tools to identify problems and complete repairs.
