Job summary

The City of Provo is hiring a full-time Facilities Maintenance Technician to provide skilled trades work across carpentry, electronics, HVAC, and other facility maintenance tasks. The role involves diagnosing issues, planning projects, supervising staff, and maintaining records to ensure safety and code compliance.

Qualified applicants will have extensive experience in multiple trades, a valid driver’s license, and a commitment to serving Provo residents.

Qualifications

• Three years as an Apprentice Facilities Maintenance Technician OR five years in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or similar trades.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled maintenance and repair across carpentry, electrical, HVAC, masonry, painting and general facilities upkeep.
• Diagnose issues with building systems, equipment, HVAC controls, and access systems.
• Design, modify or troubleshoot construction and maintenance projects as needed.
• Inspect facilities, equipment and project work for safety and code compliance.
• Plan, prioritize and oversee maintenance projects with time, materials, and cost estimates.
• Maintain accurate records of work, materials used and purchases.
• Monitor contractor work to ensure contract requirements and quality.
• Supervise full-time and part-time maintenance staff for safe, efficient performance.
• Maintain tools and equipment, performing repairs as needed.
• Perform other facility maintenance duties to support recreation center operations.

What is the compensation package?

Pay Rate: (G24) $23.56 - $34.97 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?

• Design, modify, or troubleshoot construction and maintenance projects as needed.
• Conduct inspections on facilities, equipment, and project work to ensure safety and code compliance.
• Plan, prioritize, and oversee maintenance projects, including developing work plans and estimating time, materials, and costs.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and purchases.
• Monitor contractor work to ensure alignment with contract requirements, timelines, and quality standards.
• Supervise full-time and part-time maintenance staff, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
• Maintain tools and equipment, performing minor and major repairs as needed.
• Perform other facility maintenance duties to support recreation center operations.

What are the minimum requirements?

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of education and experience.

• Three years of experience as an Apprentice Facilities Maintenance Technician OR five years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of trades or crafts such as carpentry, plumbing, construction, electrical, or other trade.
• A valid, lawful Driver’s License.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on November 4, 2026. Applicants mustmeet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
