Job summary

SJE is seeking a Facilities & Maintenance Technician for our Hoover, Alabama office. This on-site role focuses on the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment to support production and programs.

The ideal candidate maintains a clean, safe facility and collaborates with the Maintenance Team on continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires hands-on maintenance skills across painting, carpentry, mechanical work, and grounds care, plus the ability to lift heavy objects and operate tools

Qualifications

• Experience with building and grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate and use common maintenance tools safely.
• Basic safety awareness and first aid knowledge.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physical labor.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Proactively maintain interior and exterior of buildings.
• Perform painting, carpentry, plumbing, and basic mechanical repairs.
• Maintain parking areas, sidewalks, exterior grounds, and clean windows.
• Assist production with equipment installation and setup as needed.
• Open/close facilities and secure buildings after hours.
• Prepare facilities for events and programs; move furniture as required.
• Inspect and maintain company vehicles and document mileage.
• Keep records of work performed and maintenance activities.

The Job

As our Facilities & Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for basic maintenance around our facility. You will be responsible for the planned upkeep of buildings, grounds and machines while maintaining an optimally clean, safe and professional condition. You will be responsible for providing Maintenance Team support for Production continuous improvement initiatives.

The Skills You Need

Responsibilities of the position:

• Proactively keep the interior and exterior of the buildings well maintained.
• Perform general interior and exterior building maintenance and repairs, such as painting, sheetrock repair, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, floor covering, replacing/upgrading lighting, replacing a/c filters, cleaning coils, and basic maintenance of a/c.
• Exterior maintenance to maintaining parking lot, sidewalks, including regularly blowing exterior grounds. Power wash and or hose off, paint, and repair or replace outdoor furniture and slabs. Clean exterior windows. Pick up litter from premises.
• Assist production as needed for installing equipment in E-Houses, installing subpanels in enclosures, crating and building pallets for shipping, carpentry, metal grinding, and other duties as needed.
• Open and close, lock and unlock facilities as needed.
• Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for various functions and programs; prepare facilities for program use.
• Inspect, wash, and perform routine maintenance of company vehicles.
• Move and set up furniture, pictures, etc. as needed and assigned.
• Maintain current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building and grounds maintenance functions.
• Keep records of work completed, tracking vehicle assignments/maintenance/mileage.
• Serve as backup the Facilities Caretaker
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Experience, Skills And Education Requirements

Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the required work.

• Working knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies in building and grounds maintenance.
• Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs.
• Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
• Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment; ability to use tools and equipment properly and safely.
• Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to communicate orally and in writing.
• Maintain an active driver’s license in good standing.
