Job summary

The University of Kansas is seeking a General Maintenance Worker in the HVAC unit as part of a facilities services team responsible for preventive maintenance across campus. Responsibilities include general maintenance and repairs across plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry, plus responding to emergencies and maintaining equipment records.

Work involves daily inspection rounds, equipment testing, and documentation, with a 7:30am–4:00pm Monday–Friday schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of experience in building, grounds or mechanical trades; substitutions allowed with an associate's degree or vocational certificate.
• Valid driver's license by date of hire.

Responsibilities

• 40% – Facility & Equipment Inspection and Monitoring: Follows a daily inspection route to identify conditions, performs minor repairs, documents findings, tests life safety systems and emergency power sources, and takes initial action for urgent conditions.
• 30% – General Maintenance, Repair, and Emergency Response: Performs maintenance and repair tasks (tiles, walls, plumbing, HVAC belts/filters, electrical components), responds to outages or failures, and works under supervision.
• 20% – Equipment Records, Inventory, and Documentation: Maintains inventories and records, updates logs, verifies equipment status and location for preventive maintenance.
• 10% – Other Duties as Assigned: Performs related duties to support operations and priorities.
