Job summary

City of Monterey seeks a Building Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance, repair, and remodeling of city buildings and facilities. You will supervise crews, coordinate scheduled work, and manage cost estimates and contractor activities in line with city policies.

Position requires directing staff, monitoring budgets, and ensuring safety and quality across multiple projects, including custodial, trades, and energy-saving efforts. Overtime and on-call duties apply.

Qualifications

• Two years of college level coursework in business, management, engineering, or a related field.
• Five (5) years of experience in building maintenance, repair, and managing building/construction work crews.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Must possess a valid California Driver’s license upon appointment and be insurable with the City’s standard insurance rate.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for facility maintenance.
• Oversee contractual work of facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, roofing repairs, painting, and HVAC.
• Prepare maintenance schedules and monitor PM compliance.
• Prepare cost estimates and bids; monitor budget expenditures.
• Maintain records and prepare required reports; track work orders and inventory.
