Job summary

County of Monterey is seeking a Building Maintenance Worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance on county buildings and systems. Responsibilities include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, HVAC-related tasks, and locksmith duties, with emphasis on safety and records maintenance.

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time paid work experience in the crafts/mechanical trades field performing installation, repair and/or maintenance on mechanical equipment and facilities in a commercial and/or industrial setting.
• Combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the minimum qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Possess a valid California Class C driver license at the time of appointment and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and other general installation, maintenance and repair tasks.
• Repairs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; routine maintenance on mechanical equipment (lubricating, cleaning, replacing worn parts).
• Makes routine maintenance checks on buildings and equipment and identifies needed repairs; may estimate requirements and keep records of work.
• Maintains accurate records of service requests and timecard reporting.
• Applies proper work procedures and safety practices in maintenance work.
• May operate and maintain boilers and other building equipment.
• May assist skilled workers in complex carpentry, painting, electrical, masonry or refrigeration work.
• May repair and maintain lock and key mechanisms; issue keys and maintain records; manage inventory of keys and locksmith material.
