Job summary

City of Compton seeks a dedicated Facility Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair of city facilities, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting. Works under supervision with potential lead duties as assigned.

Requires a high school diploma or GED and two years’ relevant experience; valid California Class C driver’s license is mandatory. The role involves outdoor work, hazardous materials handling, and adherence to safety practices.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and/or vocational training, plus two years of recent, full-time experience at Facility Maintenance Worker I or equivalent.
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, concrete, locksmith and maintenance of buildings and related facilities.
• Assist with applying paint and protective finishes to surfaces using brushes, rollers, spray guns, etc.
• Assist in repairing floors/roofs using asphalt, tile and other materials; maintenance of structures in wood.
• Preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and graffiti maintenance.
• Operate and maintain hand and power tools; may oversee Facility Maintenance Worker I duties.
