Job summary

The State of Iowa’s Department of Transportation is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Coordinator to oversee on-site facility evaluations, cost estimates, sourcing materials and coordinating maintenance work at the Ames Complex. This role supports a dynamic team in maintaining safe, compliant facilities.

Key duties include coordinating with DOT staff, overseeing contractors, maintaining records, and ensuring adherence to building codes while working a 8:00 am–4:30 pm schedule with on-call

Qualifications

• Three years of full-time work experience in the building and trades industry.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time work as a Maintenance Repairer.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Regular onsite facility inspections and identify maintenance needs.
• Communicate with DOT staff from across the agency to receive facility requests and coordinate maintenance repairs.
• Estimate costs for repairs and small projects; obtain quotes from vendors when under completive bid threshold, submit requisitions to purchasing when over competitive bid threshold.
• Perform minor construction and repair tasks including rough and finish carpentry and lock installation.
• Coordinate and oversee the work of external contractors to ensure quality and timely completion.
• Take direction and collaborates closely with Team Lead and other Resources and Acquisitions Bureau members.
• Maintain records of work performed, project timelines, material usage, and expenses.
• Ensure compliance with all building codes and regulations.
