Job summary

The State of Iowa's Iowa DOT is seeking a Highway Technician Associate to work roadside on patching roadway and maintaining guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts and waterways.

You will participate in traffic control, pick up litter, operate snow equipment, mow vegetation, and support safety-focused operations. Residency within 45 minutes of Sloan is required with a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM shift and potential on-call/overnight travel.

Qualifications

• CDL permit required; endorsements may be required within five months of hire.
• High school diploma or GED or equivalent required; combined education/experience may count.
• Pre-employment physical and drug test required; DOT clearinghouse check.

Responsibilities

• Patch roadway.
• Repair and maintain guardrails, signs, fences, lighting, culverts and waterways.
• Participate in traffic control for maintenance activities.
• Pick up and dispose of litter and debris.
• Operate snow equipment to clear snow, ice and frost from roadways.
• Mow and spray vegetation; perform weed control.
