Job summary

The Jewish Board is seeking a Porter to maintain cleanliness, safety, and upkeep of its program facilities in New York City. This physically active role requires responsibility for daily upkeep, sanitizing surfaces, and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include cleaning offices, kitchens, bathrooms, lobbies, and storage areas; operating janitorial equipment; performing light repairs; and assisting with snow removal and fire safety checks as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of cleaning/maintenance experience in commercial spaces.
• Must be able to read and follow written directives and work orders.
• Must be fluent in English; HS-level reading/writing required.

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning of offices, kitchens, bathrooms, common areas, elevators, lobbies, corridors, stairwells, and storage spaces.
• Clean surfaces, glass, metal work, walls, doors, and fixtures; replenish supplies as needed.
• Operate hand and power custodial equipment and janitorial chemicals safely.
• Perform light repairs such as painting, changing bulbs, and minor fixes.
• Assist with snow removal and outdoor cleanup per NYC/DOS code.
• Move furniture for events and reconfigure space as required.
• Ensure fire regulations are followed; assist with drills and extinguisher checks.
