Job summary

The City of Houston’s General Services Department seeks a Maintenance Mechanic III to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems across the city’s facilities.

You will conduct routine checks, complete repair tasks, manage work orders, and help ensure safe, reliable operation of 7.7 million square feet of occupied space, with emphasis on quality, safety and adherence to department standards.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in building or mechanical maintenance is required.
• Specialized training in mechanical or trade areas is preferred.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with city policy.
• CDL may be required; veteran preferences apply when qualified.

Responsibilities

• Driving to inspect various systems and equipment; make corrections and test operations.
• Use work order system to record and document equipment history.
• Perform carpentry, plumbing, painting and roofing repairs as part of the team.
• Perform quality checks on HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
• Perform groundskeeping duties for facilities with outdoor areas.
