Job summary

Brookgreen Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, seeks a Director of Facilities and Maintenance to lead planning, budgeting, and daily operations of buildings, equipment, and vehicles. Reporting to the COO, you will guide maintenance priorities, manage resources, and ensure safety and reliability across staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Qualifications

• Minimum: high school diploma or GED and 5+ years in facilities maintenance or related field with supervisory experience.
• Experience budgeting, scheduling, coordinating contractors, and setting maintenance priorities.
• Ability to lead staff, collaborate with volunteers, and communicate priorities clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead Facilities and Maintenance by setting priorities, coaching staff, and ensuring accountability.
• Develop annual and long-term maintenance plans and capital priorities for the COO.
• Manage the departmental budget, purchasing, and inventory oversight.
• Determine internal vs. external work, provide hands-on troubleshooting when needed.
• Plan renovations and construction, including scope, cost estimates, and schedules.
• Coordinate projects with volunteers and department leaders to minimize disruption.
• Oversee after-hours maintenance emergencies and OSHA-compliant safety practices.
